Vehicle Detail
It seems like most of the '69 Firebirds, especially the convertibles don't have their original engines. This one does. The engine is the stock, numbers matching 350. The head numbers are 47, and the block letters are YE. If you need anymore numbers off of the engine or anything else, just let me know. I'm not sure if it has been rebuilt or not, but it runs strong and seems very solid. As a matter of fact, when I bought it from the previous owner, he hadn't driven it for a while and said he forgot how much pep it had and how well it ran until he drove it down the road to meet my shipper. It does have a small exhaust leak at the front of the driver's side exhaust manifold. It is coming out of the gasket, so it's a simple fix. Just put a new gasket on it and you're ready to go. The rest of the exhaust is almost new with new pipes, mufflers etc. The exhaust system has that nice muscle car sound to it too....sounds great. I was told it has all of its original running gear, with the exception of the transmission, which is a rebuilt turbo 350, like the one it came out with. It was put in just before I bought the car and the previous owner told me that he didn't really drive it anywhere except on maybe a couple of very short trips. It probably has less than 50 miles on it. The odometer says it has 37,496 miles on it, but since it turns over at 100,000 miles, I'm not sure what the actual mileage is. The car has had body work done to it in places (as you can see in the photos, some of it needs to be redone). As you can also see in the photos, it does have some rust issues in the usual spots (quarter panels, trunk, and floor boards). The trunk has a lot of little holes and needs to be replaced. The front and passenger floorboards are also pretty rusty or have some small holes in them. The good news is that in other areas, like under the back seat, to the sides of the trunk, etc.... and many areas right next to the rusty panels, there is no rust at all.... go figure. The door jam areas look really nice, as do the frame rails, floor under the back seat, and a number of other areas where you might expect a lot of rust. When I looked at the frame I could only find some light surface rust on it in places. The dash, one door panel, the driver's seat upholstery and the convertible top all need to be replaced or repaired. As you can see the other interior panels and the seats are still in nice condition, although the seats are a bit stained and should be cleaned up to look really nice. The tires are not new, but have under 500 miles on them and have great tread. This car was originally a great color for a Firebird too--Matador Red with a matching red and white interior. Take a look at the photos of the under carriage and you can get an idea of what condition it is in. From what I can see, it is in good condition for a car this age. It looks like you can even see the original paint in some places. It has a new radiator and also has air shocks, which are older but work well. It has drum brakes all the way around. The back brakes look like they are almost new, and although the front ones look good, they do have more wear on them. The front turn signal lenses are missing. I will include some in a box of parts that go with the car. They are not in very good shape, but could be restored, or of course you could just buy some new ones on the net or elsewhere if you want. I will also include a new windshield I bought to replace the cracked one that is in it now. For some reason I could only put 24 photos on the auction, but if you want some more don't hesitate to ask and will send some your way. Well, that's about it. The car is painted with primer, but it needs to be sanded down, body work done, and basically completely restored. It is driveable as-is though, seems really solid mechanically, and is able to squeak the tires if you want to. I bought it years again with plans of restoring it, but now things have changed for me, and I realize that I need to sell it. (I'll probably really regret it later.) I have tried to describe it as best as I can without writing a novel. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I will need a $500 deposit received with 48 hours after the close of the auction. Thanks for viewing this auction! On Jul-23-11 at 13:18:55 PDT, seller added the following information: I just realized I mentioned that the dash needs to be replaced or repaired. What I meant was the dash pad above the dash has cracks in it. Other than the center of the radio section being cut out for the radio, the dash itself is in good condition. The area where the radio knob shafts go through look great and are unaltered. Also, the car does have some rusty areas below the windshield, which you can see in one of the photos. Hope this helps to clarify the description a bit.
