Vehicle Detail
1959 Fiat 500 Nuova Convertible Microcar This great little microcar has been under the same owner for almost 30 years. Has been under restoration for the last few years and not quite completed. Change of circumstances requires sale. This classic 1950’s model is the rare “convertible” model, which means it has the full sunroof that folds all the way to the back of the rear seat. The early 500 models also had the reverse opening suicide doors which make enrty and exiting these little car so easy. New paint was applied a few years ago, body is straight & solid. Paint does have some flaws here and there but still very presentable. Was never intended to be a show car, just a fun micro to buzz around in. Very presentable for a driver. All the brakes have recently been re-done, which includes new master cylinder, four new wheel cylinders, new shoes all around, and new rubber brake lines. Interior is usable as is, no tears or rips though there is some discoloration on upholstery. Door panels and rear interior panels have been re-made, but not yet upholstered. There just flat panels, so easily done at home. Floor is solid. There are no floor mats and these will have to be purchased or made. Glass windshield, Wing, door, and side windows are in nice condition. Dash has all stock and correct instruments, switches and original Fiat key. Steering wheel is nice, but has a small separation shrink space near the bottom and around the horn button. Turn signal and light levers have come loose along steering column and will need to be re-attached (lever arms only). Wiper arms, linkage, and motor all there and complete. One wiper arm mounting jam nut will need replacing. Driver wing window has a little rot at the lower corner (see photo). New rubber edging & seals around doors. Original heater tubes included (not shown) and a few odd's and ends spare parts. This is a complete little US market Fiat 500 with the cool frog eye headlamps. Under the front hood, Fuel tank and compartment is all done. Has original jack and lug wrench (restored). Tank has not had fuel in it since completed. Some chrome parts have been re-plated, bumpers have original chrome, but show pimples/scratches in chrome. Has brand new convertible top installed and top bows are all restored. 2-cylinder air cooled 497 cc 4-stroke engine with 4-speed transmission. Engine has not been started since restoration started, but seemed to run fine before that time. I assume it will need some work to get going again from sitting for a number of years while under restoration. Turns over freely by the starter, but I have not put in gasoline and tried to start engine. Have all splash aprons included, but not mounted (also re-painted gloss black). Will require 12V battery and replacement tire for spare wheel. Beautiful mint green color with yellow wheels. Michelin tires all around 4:80-12 in good usable condition. I have all four original hub caps and chrome mounting bolts included. This 500 has all correct stock original parts. Pan and wheel arches have been cleaned and re-painted. So much has already been done. Has all correct and original lights, badges, emblems. Front Fiat emblem has the polished aluminum wings, but has small damage to the plastic grill (available new). One tail lens has a broken off mounting screw. This and just about anything you will ever need to finish and keep this little machine maintained is available these days, including high performance Abarth parts if so inclined. This is NOT a European import, this 500 was sold new here in California. Has clear California title, but not currently registered. Includes it's original black & yellow California lisence plates that it is titled under. Great opportunity to own one of the seldom seen 1950’s models of this famous Italian micocar. $1000 non-refundable deposit is due within 24 hours of the close of auction, Balance to be paid within 7-days of auction.
