Vehicle Detail

1957 Ford Fairlane 500 RAT ROD 390 V8 T10 Drivable project or Show car! This is a rat rod, an unfinished, sort of drivable car... or if you wish, a project car...This runs and drives with a 390 V8 2bbl engine and T10 4 speed Bord-Warner manual transmission!Vintage Root Beer brown color! Nice patina finish, just needs polishing!2 door, not a Hardtop, looks like one with the trim!Clear title ready to be transferred. The brakes somewhat work but they should be sorted out before this is used as a street driven car.Includes a windshield which is not installed. There is rust around the bottom of this, sides... and the trunk lid is rusty but that's ok because there's a bungee cord holding it down. The interior is OK for its age, OK meaning it's there and you can sit down inside of it, just that the seats are dusty, a little torn, no headliner but no big deal. The driver's side door window is broken out, fine by me because i drive with my elbow resting on the door, summer and winter in anything I drive it's just how I drive. The other side windows have cracks in them, the back window is good, the front windshield is popped out but included with the car, it just has a little ding or chip in it.The radiator has a little hole in it, it's bent in the middle probably to clear the fan.We use a hot-wire type of way to start it because we don't have a key for it, lost it.As for exhaust, it runs right out of the exhaust manifolds, no pipes front to back, sounds really mean'n'nasty!Manual brakes, not power brakes, I don't recommend driving fast in this car unless the brakes are sorted.POWER STEERING!!! That's right, this car has the factory Power Steering!9" rear end! 1957 Fords came with 9" rear ends and so did this one! There's an old bullet hole in the roof! The battery tray is a bit rusty but the battery can stay in place. The tires are old, the wheels are the original steelies and the hubcaps are included as shown in the pictures. Most of the trim is on the car, one piece has tape holding it down. The dash has an AM radio and a clock.A few extra parts are included, some are inside the car but my dad can show you what is included when you pick it up.The trunk is fairly solid, just a couple holes on the sides of the trunk floor pan. The spare wheel bump/dip is solid.I don't think the headlights, tail lights or turn signal lights work... the fuses or bulbs might need to be changed unless some wires are loose.I don't know the actual mileage, if you care how many miles a 53 year old car has then you need to just stick with your lousy SUV that you couldn't find last time you looked for it at the grocery store's parking lot...No it doesn't have air conditioning, do you really need air conditioning? There's air conditioning kits available, but, why though? roll the windows down and breathe in that nice road rolling air...SPARTAN. This car is for real car lovers. People who know what a car was, is and always should have been... not a fluffy-foo-foo luxury coachmobile that you sit in and adjust seats so far back that you can't touch the pedals so you put the cruise control on and fall asleep while talking to your best friend on your cell phone about how your nails need more pink filling... NO, you should buy this to terrorize those kinds of people.Everything that you think this car needs is available from many parts sellers online, everything, you can find it all including nuts and bolts... but really, just make it reliable and you can have a very cool car to take to car shows and most definitely you can get away with 'best project' or Rat rod awards...The 1957 FORD Fairlane series out sold Chevrolet in that sales year, first time ever. It was also featured in “ Robert Mitchum's “ movie Thunder Road featured. The car was in the final scene. The next movie was in 1960 Alfred Hitcock’s suspense thriller staring Norman Bates at the Bates Motel.((((WIKI:The 1957 models retained a single-headlight front end like their predecessors, but were unmistakable with their long flanks and tailfins. A plethora of trim lines was introduced, starting with the base "Custom", "Custom 300", "Fairlane", and top-of-the-line "Fairlane 500". The two Custom lines used a 116 in (2946 mm) wheelbase, while the Fairlanes had 118 in (2997 mm) between the wheels.))))~~~~What is a Rat Rod? Here is the answer... A rat rod is a style of Hot Rod or Custom that, in most cases, imitates (or exaggerates) the early hot rods of the 40s, 50s, and 60s. It is not to be confused with the somewhat closely related "traditional" hot rod, which is an accurate re-creation or period-correct restoration of a hot rod from the same era. Most rat rods appear "unfinished" (whether they actually are or are not), with just the bare essentials to be driven. The rat rod is the visualization of the idea of function over form. Rat rods are meant to be driven, not shown off. Sometimes the customization will include using spare parts, or parts from another car altogether.~~~~Videos of this car running and driving are here on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkK4oGmS944http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwD0aSFyaWsand here is a link to view 131 detailed pictures: http://s212.photobucket.com/albums/cc178/lowerednjuiced/1957%20Ford%20Fairlane%20500/ The buyer is responsible for picking this up from the Seattle area, the city of Renton, zip code: 98055 This car must be picked up and paid for within a week. The title I have for this car is from 1983, it is still valid but we don't have license plates for this car, so as the buyer, you need to have it trailered away, titled in your name and then you can buy license plates for it. Easy as that...This is not a parts car, it's a restorable car that you can drive just as it is!If this isn't sold within the time I list it here, we will not be relisting it, we plan on cleaning it up and driving it to car shows, so this is your only chance to own this car... and if you don't bid or click to buy it then you'll wake up the next morning and hate yourself for the rest of your life for letting this sweet car get away from you!
