Vehicle Detail

1983 Mercedes Benz 240D. Color is Light Ivory (623) with Henna Red (157) MB Tex Interior. This car was delivered to Carl Johnson's Automotive Center (Authorized MB Dealer) in New Bern, NC approximately 26 April 1983. I am the second owner, having purchased the car from the original owner about ten years ago. The car has spent its entire life in North Carolina. It is a Smoke-Free car with Sunroof, Auto Transmission, Power Windows and Locks, Cruise Control (works), upgraded Sony CD Player, working power antenna. The rear fog lights have been wired and are operational. Sale includes the Mercedes Benz Classic Zertifikat and decorative binder. The ONLY rust on this car is a small place on the rear trunk lip. My dad has had this car for the last five years and recently lost his driving privileges. The car has not been driven much in the last couple of years, but has been garage kept for most of the last ten years that I have owned it and during the time that it was owned by the original owner. The condition of the dash and interior will attest to the garage kept status. Sheepskin seat covers included, but MB Tex seats and armrest are in good condition as well and seat pads feel good. I have performed numerous service/maintenance items on this car over the past years. This 240D has always been reliable. The A/C works, the Cruise works, the transmission shifts strong, the tires are probably 75%, the windshield is clean, the car has a current NC Safety Inspection (March 2010). Please email any questions. I will attempt to accommodate your schedule if you would like to see the car or have a PPI performed. This car is pre-owned, approximately 325,000 miles, and has not been driven much recently. You are buying a used car in AS-IS condition, caveat emptor! Having said that, I would not hesitate to jump in this car and drive most anywhere. Some improvements include: center wooden console refinished, recent window and hazard switches, recent driver's door seal, recent trunk seal, CV boots rebuilt, Light Doors at headlight/foglight replaced, (4) four Bilstein Heavy Duty Shocks, Interstate Battery, Cruise Control Amplifier and steering column switch replaced, Fuel tank and screen replaced, 21 gallon MB 300D fuel tank (gives more fuel mileage range), TimeValve Stainless Steel Exhaust and Tailpipe. I have used Redline Fuel Treatment additive for years in this car. I am including a rare set of MB OEM rubber floor mats. Engine runs smooth and the car does not smoke excessively. The oil pan gasket was replaced a few years ago, but there are still some small oil leaks (not sure where). The footwell panel on the driver's side of the car is broken. I have a replacement panel in a different color that will be included with the car (if I can find it). The lower moldings are missing from passenger side of car, but I have the moldings that came off and need clips in order to re-install. R134 A/C conversion. I have two or three keys for the car and as pictured, the service books and owners manuals. I also have some of the records from my ownership, but few from previous owner. The steering wheel is firm, not soft like some older cars. I own two other MB 240d's and have owned several others in the past. The overall condition of this car is well above average for what you see out there in the marketplace. While this car is a dependable daily driver candidate, I would suggest that you will need to perform some maintenance. These cars are bullet proof, but must be maintained. This 240D needs an oil change, brake fluid flush, and probably a few little items that I am currently not aware of. Please email any questions and I will try to give you an honest and straightforward reply. Please read my feedback and bid with confidence. Thank you. I made a mistake. They have not been wired on this car. Also, I noticed that the central locking system is not working properly (typical problem, involves a vacuum leak). Glow plugs all seem to be working well, car fires up quickly and without hesitation during cold starts. Parking brake holds firm and I can assure you that it has been used most of the time (to take stress off of the tranny). Power antenna works properly, I had it rebuilt a few years ago. The sony radio has a removable face and a line input so that you can use your iPod. Speakers all replaced several years ago and the speaker fader control on the center console has been disabled. Windows have been professionally tinted (probably eight years ago) and looks good. This really helps to preserve the interior. All power windows work, but the driver's side rear window is a little slower than the others. Sunroof glides properly without any strains or bumps.
