Vehicle Detail

1971 Oldsmobile 442 A running driving start for someone looking for a little project. 1971 Olds 442, vin starts 34487 NOT THE ORIGINAL MOTOR, if it was I'd charge more obviously. NOT A REAL W30, if it was I'd charge more obviously. The motor is a 1977 olds 350 rocket, the W30 emblems where added along with a lot of other parts by a previous owner who didn't know the difference between 442 parts and cutlass parts and obviously went the cheap route when piecing the car together. Parts they added that I know are cutlass are grills, rear bumper, front door cards. Putting the car together makes a nice driver but it could use some of those things restored to correct items. Car has a 1977 olds 350 rocket motor with 650 holley double pumper. Turbo 400 automatic trans which the trans appears to be correct and original for this car. Floor shift B&M shifter. Brakes are new booster, new master cylinder, new front calipers, all new stainless lines everywhere, new proportioning valve. Brand new 3 row aluminum radiator, brand new fuel pump, brand new battery. Transmission has a new adjustable modulator and new filter. Trans dipstick leaks a little but I have a new Lokar stainless locking one to replace it I just haven't gotten it installed yet. Comes with a brand new fuel tank and sending unit since the gas gauge currently doesn't work. Exhaust is old and rusty but sounds good, it does however have long tube headers on it, nothing fancy just plain old steel long tubes. The car starts easy, stops, drives down the road and shifts through the gears. It goes down the road decent with the suspension and steering working well with no real odd noises or anything. I don't drive it much so thats all I can really tell you about how it drives but your welcome to come test drive it and see what you think. Would I drive it on the road yes, would I drive it 3 hours home, probably not without fixing the trans dipstick leak and maybe changing the plug boots to not be resting on the headers is the best way I can describe it. The body is decent, the front fenders have rust on the bottoms in pics, the drivers side is original with the crumple zone dimples on the top side, the passenger side also has rust on the bottom in pics and doesn't have the dimples so either not original or is and they were out of dimpled ones during transition. Front fenders could be patched or bolt up new ones. Passenger door is dented but window still works and goes up and down and I also have another door that comes with it that is primered and has the window and glass stuff in it so you can bolt that on as a replacement for the old door and just swap the door card. The drivers rear fenderwell looks decent but may have some filler in it but its not built out of filler or anything. The passenger side rear looks good, may have been replaced at some point but I can't really tell and if it was replaced it was done nice. Floor pans are decently solid, they aren't rusted through really and more solid then most old cars I've owned, They are firm under your foot and if they need patched or have been its not a big area. From the bottom the fronts have some areas where its not a clear patch or a clear hole, not sure how to describe it but they are firm under your foot and you won't be Fred Flintstone. Some of the drivers seat bolts are through bolted so I'm guessing the holes might be stripped and need retapped if you care. Trunk has a solid bottom in it. Paint is not great but not horrible, whats there has a decent shine but it also has its share of imperfections and if you zoom in you can probably see what i'm talking about. I would say plan on a repaint more so then a paint restoration if you really care about a nice finish. With the door a quick spray job on the whole care just makes sense anyhow. The top is excellent and done great, looks great and def not original so somebody put money into that at one point. Interior, also very nice, seat covers all really nice, headliner nice and in place where it should be, carpet is the weakest point of the interior but still pretty decent for a 1971. Little bit of dash cracking, Front speakers in kick panels are new and I have matching speakers for the rear along with a brand new package tray that come with it also. There is currently no blower motor so no heat or air. If you put a blower motor and the air delete box on the firewall you can have fan and heat but it originally was an air car and that was taken off. Core support looks to be a 72, my guess is the car had the motor taken or blown up in a past life and it was never really put back together to be correct just put back together to be driveable, it was also missing some front bumper brackets and bars which i have a set of that come with the car too. Grills, Core support, bumper brackets etc all tell me someone had the front end apart at some point. The frame rails are straight and good so either they bumped something enough to crack up the plastics and core or someone got the car with no front and threw whatever on it. If I missed anything feel free to message me, it's a great project that you can drive around now while you work on it and make it better. It comes with lots of new parts I just haven't had time to put on. It's never going to be an ultra rare high dollar car or anything but it gets a lot of attention when you drive it around and would make a great car for someone that just wants something to drive around and hit car shows and have fun with. I have a clean Title for it in my name. I'm only selling the car because we got a new mustang and I need the garage room otherwise I'd finish this out so hopefully someone will buy it that can do that and enjoy it.
