PLEASE READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTION and LOOK CLOSELY AT ALL 24 PHOTOS! 1974 BMW R90/6 with R90S FAIRING,TANK & SEAT Vintage Airhead 900 Runs Great Click images to enlarge Description Up for adoption here is a very NICE 1974 BMW R90/6 with ORIGINAL R90S BODYWORK in VERY GOOD RUNNING condition. I've owned this bike for a little over a year, don't know much of it's history, other than that some Previous Owner wanted an R90S "Replica", and so installed an original R90S FAIRING & COCKPIT with Voltmeter & Clock, R90S GAS TANK with chrome Flip-up Filler cap, and R90S dual seat. The rear fender also originally came from an R90S - you can see the original Daytona Orange paint where the rattle can red has come off on the left side! Mr. P.O. stopped short of springing for the DellOrto carbs and dual disk front end, sorry to say... Still it is VERY cool vintage Airhead, has tons of curb appeal from 10 feet away - get a little closer and the flaws in the amateur paint job become apparent, but overall it is in great shape and super fun to ride! Engine fires up immediately hot or cold, carburetion is spot-on, pulls clean and HARD all the way up the rev range with no roughness or flat spots, clutch pull is a tad heavy (typical), RARE 1974-only 5-speed transmission with kickstart shifts with the usual Airhead clunkiness but was REBUILT BY OZZIE in Chico just before it came to me, R90/6 front brakes are notorious for their wooden feel, this one is like a 2x4 but it WILL stop the bike if you grab a big enough handfull! ALL electrics work except for the front brake light switch and the clock, charging system good, speedo & tach both work fine but the odometer is a bit wonky (again, typical for the /6 models) - 8,216 currently showing (obviously NOT the original mileage), odometer registers correctly but the numbers don't line up exactly right, as shown in the photos below. Trip meter works fine. In addition to the gearbox rebuild by Ozzie, here is a summary of the work that has been done on my watch, first by Dave Harris at The Zen House in Point Arena, and then the one and only Greg Hutchinson here in the Bay Area (receipts will be provded to winning bidder): -NEW piston rings, cylinders honed, valves lapped, all NEW top-end gaskets & pushrod tube seals, NEW CRANKSHAFT MAIN SEAL, spark plugs, fresh fluids & new fuel lines, NEW Duro Conti-replica tires front & rear with NEW inner tubes -NEW brake pads, brake fluid flush, caliper aligned, master cylinder rebuilt, stainless steel brake line -NEW steering head bearings, fork tubes replaced, NEW fork seals In other works, a LOT has been done! It's not perfect yet, and the brakes still don't work the way I want them to, but it's a fine runner as-is, one that you can ride & enjoy while fettling the few remaining issues, such as new choke cables, maybe let Hartmut at Palo Alto Speedometer check out the odometer, explore one of the many /6 "Big Brake" options out there or go for a dual-disk conversion, replace the (probably) original Boge shocks that don't have much damping left, and so on... Overall cosmetics are not bad for a 44-year-old bike - a couple tears in the seat cover, some light pitting/corrosion on handlebars, top clamp, hubs etc, but nothing heinous... Noteworthy features for you Airhead enthusiasts - in addition to the kick-start 5-speed tranny - are the /5 handlebar switches (this was an early production /6, bult in December 1973) and polished alloy turn signal housings, which were painted matt black by the Previous Owner in his quest for an R90S look-alike...
