Vehicle Detail
For your consideration we have a very nice 1964 Triumph TR4. A well-known classic British sports car that is a good example and certainly one of the best looking in the Triumph series. This TR4 has been maintained by the same family for the past 30 years, passed down from father to son, and is an authentic black plated California car. After having sat in a garage for the past 12 years, the current owner sought to get the car back up and running. The fuel system has been gone through, having had the carburetors cleaned out, fuel lines, and fuel pump replaced, along with a good used fuel tank fitted. The brakes were also sorted out at this time; the rear wheel cylinders and shoes were replaced and the system was bled with fresh brake fluid. As a result, this TR4 does run and drive, however it could use a good tune up to get it running more smoothly. Having undergone an older rebuild by Larones Motorsport in 1996, this Triumph has been equipped with weber carburetors, a stainless-steel exhaust, and the engine has been improved to suit a lightened flywheel, oversized pistons, and the head has been shaved for better performance. The exterior British racing green paint is in decent condition and believed to be the original color of the car. There is cracking and chipping away of the paint in places (see pictures), with an overall snake skin appearance if looked at closely. From a distance it is very good looking. The body is very straight with good lines, and the fit and gap of the doors and body panels is excellent. This TR4 has not had fallen victim to accidents or had any major body damage in its lifetime. The chrome front and rear bumpers are excellent, the trim is complete and looks very nice as well. The glass is all clear without scratches or chips. The top frame assembly is in good working condition and comes with a new tan soft-top. The original white tonneau cover is decent but there are some blemishes as to be expected considering its age along with a small tear. However, all hardware to fit the tonneau properly are in place. The wheels were painted green to match the exterior paint and are complete with Triumph embossed hub caps and tires that have plenty of tread left on them, however they are old and should probably be replaced before any long drives. The interior has been redone and is a nice shade between gray and dark brown, which suits the green exterior very nicely. The seats are in good shape without any rips or tears but the passenger side seat backing has pulled away and needs to be reattached. The door panels match the seats with the same material. The door panel pockets are a little baggy but functional. The black carpeting is original, tidy, and complete. The green metal dash is excellent and has an attractive wood surround that looks like its meant to be there, though it is not original to the car. It is missing its glove box. Electrically this TR4 is sound. The gauges are functional at the time of this writing. The headlights, tail lights, brake lights, and indicators all function properly. Overall this Triumph is a fun example that has been slightly modified for some added performance. As always, I would advise inspecting the car in person if at all possible.
