Vehicle Detail
I bought this car on ebay in 2004. We flew to Knoxville, got pick-ed up by the seller and completed the transaction. It didn’t even have a spare tire. The listing didn’t include a picture of the engine - it looked awful. We got in, drove to Charlottsville VA and had the oil and filter changed then completed the drive back to Massachusetts without any problems. The parting words of the seller were - “it’s a good car”; she was right. This is a base model with a 3 speed manual transmission, there’s no power steering, convertible top or brakes. Original glass shows it’s age and there’s a small rock ding in the windshield; slight bubbling in the bottom front of both doors hasn’t progressed in the past 14 years. The car is garaged. The frame is very solid. The original color was Ivy Green Metallic and it came with a 289; the prior owner had it re-painted to Poppy and upgraded the engine to a 1969 Cleveland 302. It’s peppy and can cruise at 80mph. The carpeting, seat covers and convertible top were previously replaced and are in very good condition with no tears. Sound deadening material was installed under the carpeting. Mechanical improvements/parts replaced: the front-end was rebuilt with all new bushings; a rear anti-sway bar was added; the car has been converted to dual exhaust (nice rumble); and also converted to a dual reservoir master cylinder last summer for safety - and all of the wheel cylinders were rebuilt at the same time. Front spring perches replaced along with heavy duty front springs that lower the front end by about 1 inch; replaced the rear leaf springs and shackles; newer KYB gas shocks all around. Ignition converted to Pertronix Flamethrower electronic ignition. Carb has been rebuilt; speedometer cable, direction signal switch and wiring, and the brake light switch replaced. Oil pan gasket, front crankshaft engine seal, and the timing chain cover gasket replaced. Water pump, fuel pump, starter motor replaced. The fuel tank, filler hose, fuel tank sending unit and the gas cap were replaced. New valve covers, breather cap and air filter assembly replaced. A new spare tire is included with a scissor jack and lug nut wrench; all 4 tires have been replaced with radials. The heater box was rebuilt and new defroster hoses installed. The battery is 1 year old; the battery tray has been replaced. The voltage regulator and ignition switch replaced; the radiator was replaced and an overflow tube tank added. Appearance improvements/replacements: new steering wheel and horn button; upgraded radio; tail light and brake light wiring harness, tail light bodies/lenses/bezels; back-up light units. Also, dash pad, stereo dash speakers, gauge surround, interior door and window handles, glove box, door interior panels and moisture seals, arm rests, seat belts added. The kick panels were replaced with panels housing mounted speakers. Front and rear bumpers and bumper guards and mounting brackets. The convertible top and chrome trim spears; newer boot looks great, sun visors replaced. Headlight bodies and the front parking lights and wiring replaced. Found a set of original wire wheel covers that sat in some guy’s kitchen for 16 years until I pried them loose; a spare wheel cover is also included. I’m sure I’m forgetting a number of things but I have a binder of receipts and pictures of the work done. I’ve saved all of the parts (including the original radio); the old replaced parts are yours if you want them. I also have a binder of relevant repair articles cutout from Mustang Monthly. I just don’t drive it as much as it would like to be driven. Ask your questions up front and make sure you have your finances in order and your wife or significant other onboard; there’s no returns on this sale. Non-payment will be reported to ebay. Shipping arrangements and payment are the responsibility of the buyer. Local sale preferred; bank check preferred; Paypal accepted. Funds have to clear before the car is released; reasonable reserve; clear title in hand. Thanks for looking. Please email any questions or phone me at (781) 726-2603.
