Vehicle Detail
1974 BMW R60/5 Same owner since 1978 (40 years). Always under cover. Original mileage: 48627. Rides and shifts and stops well and idles low. Rides over the years were always local within 100 miles. Longest ride was from Spokane, WA over the north Cascade pass down to Seattle. All parts have come from Capital Cycle, Bob's BMW or Mac’s Cycle BMW. Original black paint is generally very good condition. 4.5 gallon capacity “toaster tank” was available for only approximately 3 years. Interior of tank is good condition. Chrome is very good with handle bars showing the most wear. There is a small ding (size mm) on the right side chrome petrol tank due to a cat knocking off a 2x4 stacked on a wall rack. The cat hasn’t been seen since. Left chrome panel has a shallow area at top edge. Both of these defects may be correctable although this owner has never wanted to remove the panels.Original Denfield passenger foot pegs. All lamps work. New battery 06/2016. The heads were rebuilt with new valves and guides 2012. New clutch plate replaced a few years ago. Seat was recovered with correct factory pattern and is soft and good condition. Rocker arm bushings have been converted to roller bearings. All lights work as does speedometer and tach. Original horn sounds good. Newer bosch plugs. Tires are the recommended Dunlop/rear and Metzler/front. No checking, lots of tread. Spare extra parts consist of: New: Clutch cable. Battery cable, oil filter and gasket, two air cleaners, Numerous new rubber grommets, small cable boots, metal ‘O’ rings. One new fork cap nuts. Two new headlamp bulbs. Alternator brush set. Advance springs. Good owners manual . Well used Haynes shop manual. Bakelit ignition key X1. backup spare X1. Fork lock/seat keys X2. Tools: Many of the original tools are included but kit may not be complete. 3 tools marked ‘Heyco’ W-Germany are:one tire tool, fork cap tool One open end wrench 19-22.Open end wrenches marked west Germany consist of one 7-9mm, and two 13-17mm. Also a special socket for the swing arm nuts and a exhaust nut wrench. Plug wrench, Other nut tool and one pliers marked usa which came with the bike when I bought it.Original hand air pump.Original vinyl pouch has tears. Used parts: original rocker arm parts along with 2 new rocker shafts and 4 new bushings.Other bits. Rear luggage rack (factory or dealer from new) needs one piece welded back on. Needs:The small curved metal rod used for the toe to put down the center stand is broken off and needs to be welded back on. Will be needing mufflers (see patch) although is quiet running now. Notes: this model bmw has, over the last decade or more, quietly become quite desirable. The owner, being a few years retired, in his 70’s, hasn’t ridden it much in the past few years says “maybe it’s time to let it go” Note: The starter motor has recently been either working or it jutters. A new regulator and starter relay was installed 2012. Some testing is in order. This is one of the last years that a kick starter was available which was always the preferred method for the owner.
