Vehicle Detail
NO-RESERVE - Up for auction is this 63 T-Bird in decent original condition. The car was left to me by a good friend when he passed away a couple of years back. The car has been sitting in my garage for the better part of two years now and as I currently have two other vehicles that I'm "building", I do not foresee myself ever doing anything with it, so on to Ebay it goes. (My late friend was OK with that, too) This is basically an old original car that's been kept in fairly good condition, and with a minimal amount of repair work could be returned to daily-driver status. This is not being represented as "restored" or as a show car, although it looks pretty good for 55 years old. The mileage on the odometer may or may not be accurate, my guess is that it's rolled over at least once. THE GOOD: The 390 4-barrel runs good, cranks evenly and idles smooth. I don't know if it's ever been rebuilt, but doesn't knock and the few times I've driven it there was no visible smoke from the tailpipe. I rebuilt the original Autolite carburetor when I got the car. The old "green-dot" Cruise-O-Matic transmission shifts good, drops right into gear with no hesitation. I was told that the chrome valve covers and air cleaner are a factory chrome kit, but I'm not sure. The chrome's nice anyway. The rims are new and are real spokes, I believe they are reproductions of the accessory pieces offered by Ford as an option back in the day and have excellent chrome, the tires appear to be good also. The power steering works great as do the original hydraulically-operated windshield wipers. The title is in my name and holds no encumbrances or errors that would impede a transfer. THE BAD: The front suspension and steering have some worn parts, and the A/C does not work. The brakes should be gone through. Typical for a 55 year old car. The lower half of the body has been repainted the turquoise color (It looks like it was all originally white), and there appears to be some poorly executed body repairs in the rear wheel-well areas. There's also a small rust hole under the trunk mat (See pics). I do have the original rear wheel "skirts" which are painted the same color as the body, but they hit the "knock-off" hub caps on the spoke wheels, so I left them off. Weighing the good points about the car against the bad, it still shakes out as a very viable old ride. This is a neat, fun old car and it turns a lot of heads. BTW, I own a garage business and am an ASE Certified Master Automotive technician. If you buy the car and want to have the problem areas addressed before you drive it away, I'd be happy to provide an accurate, written estimate to you. $500.00 deposit through PayPal within 48 hrs. of auction end is required, the full auction price is payable in full by cashier's check or cash in person within 7 days, thank you. The buyer is responsible for transporting the car, I'll be glad to get it to a pick-up point here at my location. Feel free to call me during the day (8 - 5 Mountain Time, Mon - Fri) at my shop if you have questions - 435-644-8640, just ask for Jim.
