Vehicle Detail
1966 Volvo 122S, Amazon, Four Door Sedan This 4 door sedan was originally purchased new by my father in Whittier, CA. I inherited it in 1980, and sold it in 1989 with 198,000 miles on the same B18 engine, manual transmission, mechanical system. I later saw it for sale on EBAY in 2003 in Northern California, and bought it back, same VIN number, no joke! I have decided to sell the car, having recently retired and will retain a 1968 122S that I also own. The car was refurbished sometime between my two ownerships. The B18 engine had been rebuilt, new interior installed (VW Beetle style black vinyl), as well the exterior having been treated to a good quality paint job in the original white. Some dents and body panels had been repaired with the refurbishment. The car had probably been through one or more owners since I bought it back, degrading the appeal of the refurbishment, although the car looks good from 15 feet away. The primary damage includes: Some shallow indentations in the two rear door panels, although the paint is unscratched and not cracked over the top of them, The car was rear ended at one point, a replacement trunk lid installed with bondo added around the tail lights, with some cracks evident, and a repaint in those areas (that does not quite match the rest of the car with age). I replaced the rear bumper and bumperettes, A 2 inch by 2 inch dent on the drivers’ side door (see photograph), Some very small areas of possible rust under the paint, (indicated in the photographs),A 3 inch by 3 inch hole in the drivers’ side floorboard (50 years of wet feet), covered by a piece of sheet metal under the carpet. The rest of the floor boards and undercarriage look pretty good. The front window seal and trunk seal leak during a heavy downpour. A new trunk seal will be included with the car. The front window seal should be replaced,Some weatherstripping on or around the driver’s door needs to be repaired. The good: The car has been garaged 90% of the time during my latest 14 years of ownership.I installed an IPD suspension (anti sway bars, lowered springs, polyurethane bushings and heavy duty Bilstein shocks). All front tie rods have been replaced as well as motor mounts and upper and lower ball joints.2 inch Skandix exhaust with a dual port 1967 Volvo exhaust manifold,4.5 inch wheels from a 122 wagon, painted the correct white color of the car although I prefer the wheel covers as seen in the photographs. The clutch master and slave cylinders were replaced in 2016.I recovered the rear seat bottom and back with seat covers from Swedish Treasures. The front seats have been replaced, and sourced from other cars. There is a color mismatch between the two front seats and the rear seats. The engine runs well and feels as though it has similar power that the car would have had when it was new. The engine burns a quart of oil every 500 to 1000 miles. The car is well tuned and the carburetors and choke operate correctly. The transmission works perfectly in all gears. There is some noise from the rear differential when traveling at high speeds, although it has been constant and unchanged during my ownership. The exterior paint, is / was a very good paint job and was applied with the chrome / trim removed. I believe it is enamel without a clear coat, and looks very good when polished, and then waxed. The trunk lid, and repair areas around the tail lights are exceptions. The electrical all works, an ignition start button was installed under the steering wheel cowl for security purposes. I’ve driven the car an average of 1,000 miles per year since 2003. The odometer indicates 52,500 miles. I don’t know if the car has been driven 250,000 miles or 350,000 miles. It does well down the freeway at 55 to 75 miles per hour. The car handles well with the suspension set up and body role is greatly reduced. The car is fun on a windy road, when accelerating and decelerating in third gear (its sweet spot) between 35 and 60 mph. The ride is firm, but not jarring. The 165 – R15 tires are old (10 to 15 years) and should be replaced, although the tread is still good. The AM-FM Bendix radio may be replaced by the original working Bendix AM radio prior to sale. I can include the original springs and front anti sway bar with the car if they are desired. The buyer is responsible for shipping or local pick up.
