Vehicle Detail
1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split Window Coupe This Corvette spent the past 45 years with the second owner. The original owner customized the car to his liking in 1969 with paint, wheels(all four original 1963 hubcaps that came with the car are included), interior color, valve covers, additional tail lights, and 8 track player in place of clock(original clock that came with car is included) and it hasn't been cosmetically changed since! It was purchased in San Francisco California by the original owner and stayed there with the second owner as well until 1982 when he moved to Idaho. The car has been started and driven a few times per year the past 35 years while being stored in Idaho. This is a functional running and driving car. It starts right up, drives down the road nicely, shifts through all the gears smoothly, tracks straight with tight steering, and brakes properly. It's been mechanically maintained through the years but not changed cosmetically since 1969. This Corvette has not been on the market or for sale in 45 years! Most of the 63 Split Windows out there have either been restored, or have been attempted to be restored. This is your chance to either restore a very complete functional car and know exactly what you're starting with, or keep it the way it is. The car is 100% rust free in the birdcage and frame. The original bonding strips are still in place and it has never been wrecked. The 48 year old paint is very lacquer checked from its age with many paint chips and imperfections. There were multiple colors laid down for the paint scheme when painted. The original chrome and stainless trim pieces are in very good condition. All original glass is in great condition with no cracks, breaks, or chips. There is no sag in the doors, gaps are nice and even, and they shut nice and solid. The windows roll up and down smoothly with the wing windows functioning nicely as well. The turn signal cam in the steering column and horn are not currently working. All other electrical items are including the original AM/FM radio, both headlight bucket motors, headlights, brake lights, all gauges(mph, rpm, fuel, oil, temp, amp), wipers, lighter, and heater blower. It has an original period correct 300hp 327 and Muncie 4 speed transmission. The second owner(82 years of age)stated that the original owner had the long block replaced at some point during late 1963(not sure of reason why or whether this was done at the GM dealership under warranty where purchased). I've went through all the castings and date codes on block, intake, and heads which appear to be from the 3rd and 4th month in 1963 which would make sense for the time frame of replacement as the second owner stated. It then appears that the original water neck, distributor, and exhaust manifolds from the original engine were reused on the replacement long block.
