Vehicle Detail
* 1996 BMW R1100RS * Before you and up for bid is my 1996 BMW R1100RS Sport Touring motorcycle. The particulars of the bike are as follows: * One adult owner/BMW enthisiast, purchased new from A&S Motorsports in Citrus Heights, CA. * VERY LOW, 17,582 documented actual miles, title noted as such. * Service/warranty & maintenance history records * NO accident history * Garaged & pampered * Recent service included a new battery, starter, fuel float, fuel filter, brake system flush, and oil & filter. In addition, in advance of the sale, two new METZLER tires were also just mounted and balanced. * R1100RS, (1085cc), 2 cylinder, boxer engine, 4 valves per cylinder, turns right over and holds a smooth idle, NO annoying drips anywhere. * 5 speed transmission, easy shifts throughout Model Overview: When the "oilhead" R series was introduced by BMW in 1994, these bikes were a departure. Since the 1930's, BMW had been building horizontally opposed twin cylinder machines with 2 valves per cylinder actuated by push rods. While the R1100RS is still air cooled, the number of valves per cylinder doubled to 4, and the camshafts are now actuated by a series of belts driven from the crankshaft. Additionally, the R1000RS was the first "Boxer" to feature electronic fuel injection. A quantum leap is the innovative "Telelever" front suspension system. The belief was that a motorcycle's steering and suspension systems should be independent from each other. Traditional front forks flex, the steering geometry of a machine is altered when the front brake is used, thus resulting in much of the fork's movement being taken up under braking, this in turn leaves little to deal with the bumps in the road. The R1100RS still utilizes telescopic forks, but they deal with the steering only. The suspension is handled by a single shock absorber bolted to the headstock, and actuated by a wishbone-shaped bracket that joins the forks to the chassis. In effect, the forks are merely sliders that join the front wheel to the headstock, while the wishbone actuates the shock absorber. Thus, the suspension and steering are separated, creating an anti-dive effect when the front brake is applied. This certainly gives more feedback to the rider, while retaining the traditional look of telescopic forks. BMW designed this bike to be a superlative sport tourer, so comfort and the ability to cover ground effortlessly were also essential. To this end BMW equipped the R1100RS with a host of user friendly features that include adjustable seat height, handlebars and windscreen to tailor the bike to each's own requirements. With a 5 gal. fuel tank and frugal 45 mpg fuel consumption, the R1100RS can cover 200 miles on a tank of fuel, as well as pack a decent amount of luggage for the two wheeled tourist. * BMW lockable, hard side touring luggage are included, they are in excellent shape. An identical set of this luggage sold last week on eBay for $520.00. * The bike weighs in at 526 lb. The R1100RS needs good brakes and has them in the form of 305mm discs at the front gripped by BREMBO 4 piston calipers. BMW's excellent anti-lock braking system is also fitted, making this a very safe and well-braked machine. With the engine putting out 95 bhp, the R1100RS is capable of topping 135mph, but it is its ability to cruise all day at three digit speeds that is its forte. With the R1100RS, BMW built a thoroughly modern motorcycle. While not the fastest, it is a superbly capable and comfortable Bavarian hallmark. * Optional ABS brake equipped, it does not have the heated grip option. * Excellent condition throughout, the bike was just inspected by an authorized BMW service center when the tires were mounted. They remarked it was the cleanest that they had seen. * New BMW oem windscreen just installed * Very nice paint w/mirror reflection, there are some small storage blemishes on the tall fairing. (see pics) * Excellent seat, no tears, splits, wear, or impressions * Fully stock other than the carbon fiber mirrors. * The R1100RS looks, runs and rides great! Every comfort and safety feature is fully operational. (all lights, turn signals, side markers, high & low beam, gauges, clock, fuel tank indicator, function monitoring lights, horn, etc., are fully operational) * No jug, foot peg, stand, or pipe scuffs * Original key, luggage key, owners manual, tool pouch, and records will accompany the sale. These bikes retailed for over $14K when new, this is a tremendous touring bike for the money. You are bidding to purchase the R1100RS, not to be the first to look at it. Thank you.
