Vehicle Detail
What we have here is a totally original matching numbers 1958 Jaguar Mark VIII. We are the second owners of the car, but it might as well be a one owner car as we did not use it very much, nor put a substantial amount of miles on it. Probably less than 200. The car was purchased eight years ago from a Boeing engineer who bought the car new in December of 1957. He was very meticulous in caring for it and maintained it as well as anyone could have. He put around 50,000 miles on the car and then babied it until it was passed on to us. The original owner garaged it all of it's life, as far as we know, and we did so as well. The car is in immaculate condition for being a driven and non restored car. The wood trim in the interior is gorgeous. Rivaling and maybe beating the wood in a brand new Mercedes. The leather seats have been protected for years by the sheepskin cover that the original owner had made for the car. We have never driven the car with the sheepskin off, but from what we can see the leather is still clean and firm. Just like the day it was bought. All gauges and lights in the car are in working condition, and all buttons and levers operate correctly in opening and closing things such as doors and windows. The first owner also put in a driving computer some years after he bought the car. The driving computer is small and unobtrusive and calculates all kinds of things such as gas mileage and trip speed. It also supposedly adds cruise control functions but we have not tested this. This part is not original to the car and can be removed if one wishes. Overall, the interior of the car is clean and complete. The exterior of the car is also all original. The paint on the car is the same paint that came from the factory. Like many older cars who haven't been repainted, the paint is not without it's imperfections. There are small blemishes and "thin" spots on the car with the roof being the most affected. There is nothing major that needs immediate attention but it is not show quality. The headlights in the front of the car are beautiful pieces that are all fully functional with different settings turning on different lights. The chrome pieces on the car are all original. The chrome on the car is clean for the most part except for the normal oxidation that occurs with something of this age.The car runs and drives just as is should. The mechanics of the vehicle are all sound. The 6 cylinder engine doesn't skip a beat and the automatic transmission shifts when it is supposed to. The brakes are a little tough compared to newer cars but will stop the Jaguar. The whitewall tires seem to still have a good amount of tread on them and will last a while longer. The most impressive thing about this car has to be the seemingly perfect documentation. The owner has kept every single official piece of paper that has to do with the car. It starts with the Original title and dealership paperwork and continues to include two manuals for the car and countless pamphlets and brochures for troubleshooting and maintenance. The owner even kept service vouchers that could have been redeemed at the nearest jaguar dealership for a free service of the car! Even more impressive is a series of letters between the original owner and the Jaguar corporation dating back to 1970. Also included are all receipts that have ever had anything to do with the car so maintenance can be tracked through the years. Besides documentation, there are many other original items that come with the car such as the original tool set in the driver's door. It is complete with all original tools from Jaguar. The spare tire is in the trunk with the original all leather cover and also included is a wooden steering wheel sign that came with the car for when it was on display. All in all the car is beautiful for it's age and the perfect candidate for a weekend driver or an easy showroom quality restoration. Shipping is up to the buyer. Please call to schedule a showing!
