Vehicle Detail

You are viewing my auction for a very nice 1982 AMC Jeep Wagoneer Limited. Purchased about 5 years ago, this vehicle gets 'thumbs-up' and 'double takes' wherever it goes. My family and I have had a lot of fun riding around in it, but my job situation has changed and having a fun extra vehicle around just doesn't fit right now. So I have to let the Waggie go. A few basics and then I will get into some more detail. Again, 1982 AMC Jeep Wagoneer Limited white w/Nutmeg interior with leather, power locks, power windows, power steering, power brakes, cruise, tilt, 360 V8, 4WD, etc. This is the last of the all-metal dash, wrap around tail light Wagoneer's. It was very clean when I purchased it and I have kept it that way. I believe I am the third owner (maybe the 4th). I have made it my mission to make sure the things that don't really show are fresh and new. So, for the past few years I have tinkered with a lot of underlying things to make sure this vehicle is sound and reliable. With that said, I will take you through a tour of the good and the not so good. The Good:This vehicle is 99% rust free, paint is in decent shape, all new outer gaskets (door handles, window wipes - sides and rear, lock cylinders, etc.), all doors have been gone through and new moisture barriers created, 3-1/2 inch lift kit with new shocks, Ammeter to volt meter upgrade (problem prone meter swapped out and alternator wired direct to battery), new alternator, classic looking but modern function stereo installed along with component speakers up front and upgraded speakers in rear, power windows all work, rear gate power window works from tailgate key switch and dash switch, all bulbs and lights working, wiper washer and radiator overflow plastic jugs replaced with welded aluminum tanks, old weak ignition system replaced with all-in-one high energy system, leather in great shape with normal wear for these vehicles, headliner redone just before I purchased the vehicle and still in perfect shape, brake system completely rebuilt with J20 truck dual diaphram booster for improved stopping power, upgraded to braided brake lines, front outer axle shafts u-joints and bearings replaced, keyless entry added, 1 inch wheel spacers added for improved stance and appearance, all chrome in great shape, bronze tint added all around to complement interior and exterior appearance, back dated front end eliminates 'plastic' front end, good tires (31 x 11.50), great heater, 4WD works great, smooth running and drives great. The Not so good:From the photos you can see that the wood grain has decided to let go. This has just happened in the last year. I have tinkered with some new material as a test. You may be able to see that in the photos. So you either like the 'patina' look, do away with it, or fix it. The A/C does not work. It has a refurbished compressor and a new dryer, but it really needs a good old-school specialist to get it working. Honestly, the factory added 'add-on' air system was never that good to start with. It has it's shortcomings even when working. There are companies that offer a real integrated system for these vehicles. I would have done this, but I have to let the next owner deal with it. I mentioned that the tires are good. They are, but they are old. One of the photos shows the bottom left corner of the windshield. These vehicles can develop rust issues behind the trim at the base of the windshield. Apparently this one did and someone made a repair. However the repair was made without removing the windshield and the windshield saw too much heat. This is an educated guess, because it was like this when I got it. Everything regarding this seems sound and is not a problem except for looking bad. The rear diff has some play in it. It clangs a little when you put it in gear. I thought it was drive shaft u-joints, so I replaced them, but no change. Checked rear diff and found play. It doesn't make any noise when driving and performs fine, but worth noting. This is a 1982 model vehicle and most of it is original. It has 193,580 original miles on it. It has been well cared for by me and, apparently by those before me. But, it is 34 years old and it comes with some blemishes and wear from its time on this earth, so don't expect perfection here. I have put around 10,000 miles on it in almost 5 years, so it has been very lightly used. It is straight, rust free, drives, stops, and turns like a new one. The front end has been back-dated to the late sixties style. I got creative and wanted the 4-light military look, so I found some lights for the inner locations which are usually covered by some little cosmetic grills. The 4-light setup makes this one of a very few in existence with this addition. The lift springs are a little stiff, but easy to get used to. I eliminated the yucky problem prone vacuum controlled emissions controls and catalytic converter. The two barrel carb works but is inefficient and rich. However, it hasn't missed a beat yet. I was going to either replace it with a more efficient 4-barrel or do fuel injection. Again, I will leave that to its next owner. An O2 sensor bung in already welded in for that possibility. It does have a spare tire on a steel rim under the rear, but no jack or tire tools. There are so many things I have touched on this thing, there is just no way to list it all. I am open for any questions or thoughts. I will add to this description if other things come to mind. I have really loved this vehicle and hate to have to let it go, and I truly hope it goes to someone who cares for it as much as I have. My schedule keeps me pretty busy, so bear with me when it comes to setting up times to look at it, drive it, etc. I am listing this locally, so I reserve the right to end this auction at any time. If you are within reasonable driving range, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend that you drive it home. It is not stingy on gas, so be prepared. Otherwise, I am very willing to work with a shipper of your choice or help you trailer it up on this end. You don't find too many like this, so I think my price and reserve are very fair. Don't miss out on a great classic vehicle! Winning bidder to submit $500 through PayPal as a security deposit upon close of auction. Pickup arrangements to be made within 7 days of auction end. Cash, cashier's check, or other approved funds expected to cover balance at time of pickup. Other payment arrangements to be discussed before pickup if so required or requested. I do have the title in my possession. Thanks for looking and happy bidding!
