Vehicle Detail
1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet VIN WP0EB0919JS170231 (build date 8/87) 226,600 miles. Great driver. We have owned this car since 2004. Car had 175,000 miles on it when we bought it. Drove it for 22K before we completely overhauled the engine at 197,500 miles. We are long-time (40+ year) PCA members who own and have owned several different model Porsches. We drive our Porsches – no garage queens. They are driven at Autocrosses, tours, rallies, driven on cross country trips, driven to PCA Parades, Escapes, etc. This Carrera has been driven to 4 Porsche Parades, 4 PCA Escapes, numerous Tours /Rallies, autocrosses and it has been a summer daily driver. That said, we also mechanically maintain our cars above average. With the amount of miles we put on our cars, we have to. Factory Color is Nougat Brown (which is a metallic bronze/brown – has a slight purple-ish hue). Hard to replicate the exact color in the photos. You will see it looks different depending on the light (angle/indoor/outdoor). The name of the color doesn’t do it justice, it is a really nice color and fascinating on how the hue changes slightly depending on the light. The car looks and runs good, but it is a driver. Parts of this car were repainted before we bought it, the match is close and not overtly obvious. We do not know the history of the car before 2004, except that it was a daily driver for a couple previous owners. Front spoiler and valance have slight tweaks (see photos), but fog lights and valance to body panels still line up. Front bumper and valance have road rash (see photos) and rock chips from a cross country trip. The headlight rings have lots of rock chips (same trip) and the front hood has some chips along the leading edge. Right front fender has a paint scrape along lip from rubbing against something. Rear valance does not line up on right side. Engine decklid has a small ding along lower edge. Paint on this car isn’t perfect, but the clear coat is in decent shape with no cracking or fog. A metallic color with this much age will show some wear. A close eye can see that different panels have been repainted at different times, but it’s not super obvious and there is lots of the original paint is still there. Right Rear Bumper Guard has a crack in it (see photos). Seats and paneling are tan leather. Carpet is champagne color. All carpeting is original. There are Llyod Floor Mats on top of the original factory floor carpeting. Driver side floor carpeting has heel holes in it. The rest of the carpeting shows normal wear and tear for a 28 year old, high mileage driver. Being a lighter color, it also shows dirt more than a dark color would. All leather on rear seats and door panels are original factory leather. Seats were rebuilt/recovered about 8 years ago in factory leather by Tony Garcia at Autobahn Interiors. All power functions work on both seats. A/C works great (still uses R-12) and blows cold. A/C system was rebuilt 10 years ago with new Performance Aire compressor, upgraded Kuehl evaporator, barrier hoses, receiver/drier. Wheels are genuine Porsche Fuchs, 6x16 (205/55 tires) and 7x16 (225/50 tires), with polished finish and polished center caps. Yokohama Advan tires have about 7K miles on them and have 50% or more tread on all 4. Bilstein shock inserts in front (Boge strut housings), and Bilstein shocks in rear. Turbo Tie rods. Das Schild hood liner installed inside front hood (see photos) Factory windstop included (shown in photos) Electric top works great (see video) https://youtu.be/15ghakArIik Factory top boot (shown in photos) Covercraft Weathershield HP car cover included 30k on complete professionally rebuilt motor (rebuilt by Otto’s in Venice, CA in 2008) Engine rebuild specs: All new: Mahle pistons & cylinders, valves, valve guides, springs, main bearings, rod bearings, intermediate shaft bearings, chain tensioners, chains, gaskets/seals, all hoses, all machine work done by Engine Machine Service (EMS) in L.A., Engine was dropped to about 9.0:1 compression so there would not be any fuel issues. (9.5:1 was stock). New Clutch disc, pressure plate and throwout bearing were installed at the time of engine rebuild. K&N air filter. New Bosch alternator installed with new engine New cooling fan and pulley installed with new engine New factory catalytic converter installed with engine rebuild Just serviced: Valve adjustment, spark plugs, fuel filter, oil & filter. Passed CA smog easily. Engine runs strong all throughout the power band Front oil cooler and front oil cooling fan work as they should Spare tire, air compressor, tool kit, jack, owners manual all included G50 5-speed trans. Trans fluid just changed (Mobil 1 75W/90) Brake system just flushed with new fluid (ATE TYP200 DOT4) Battery is a 4+ year old Bosch battery and works fine. We keep it on a trickle charger if we are not going to use the car for more than a week. The battery voltage will drop below starting range if it sits over a week (this has been the case with this car since we got it). This car needs to be on a trickle charger is it is going to sit for more than a few days. Radio has issues: Installed is a Sony radio with CD player and XM/Sirius radio adapter installed. There is a high output Sony amplifier in the front trunk. However, only one of the speakers works at this time. Some of the speakers are missing behind the grilles and/or have had wires cut (by previous owners). We added the current Sony in-dash unit, but never sorted out the speaker/amp issues. XM/Sirius can be added with a subscription. The system needs a stereo shop to go through and fix all the speaker/wiring issues. New front windshield being installed (with new seal and windshield trim). Hood shocks are new (front and rear) New door seals included (you can install) Spares included: DME relay, head temp sensor (used, but good), fuses, relay, window switch, fan/AC belts 2 keys included. All locks work (doors, glovebox, hood). All instruments and lighting work Cruise control works Power windows work Power mirrors work Power Cabriolet Top was rebuilt/replaced sometime around 2002 by previous owner and works just fine (see video). Top/side seals are worn, but work. The seals cosmetically look bad, but still function for their age. Top fabric is treated with Porsche Cabriolet top conditioner/waterproofer. Rear plastic window has minor scratches and shows some age. Will provide a list of all items fixed/replaced on this car since we have owned it with dates/mileages. Drive this car and have some fun!
