Vehicle Detail

Up for sale today is an outstanding example of a 1931 Model A Ford Phaeton. The car was restored to a high degree by my father R.D. Peterson of Dallas TX. It was completed about 1975, and has been maintained in excellent condition ever since. It does show a few minor paint chips, but overall is in excellent condition and quite presentable. The underside is very clean. The body prior to restoration was a Texas car with no rust problems. All four fenders were NOS when the car was restored. The RH front fender had a well added, but it appears as if the well was original due to high quality workmanship. The car was finished in Washington Blue single stage acrylic enamel. Wheels and pin striping are Tacoma Cream acrylic enamel. The wheels have minor chipping around the hub caps. They could look a lot better with some minor touch up. The engine was bored .080” oversize and fitted with new pistons. Crankshaft is a Model “B” unit. The flywheel was machined to accept a flathead V8 clutch and pressure plate. The rotating assembly was balanced. The cylinder head is a “Police” or “Denver” high compression A head. Camshaft was a NOS Model B cam. The car is equipped with a Borg Warner electric overdrive unit adapted to the Model A drive shaft. There were no modifications to the transmission or rear axle. The overdrive unit features kickdown on the throttle linkage. There is a cable operated lockout for the free wheeling feature. The rear axle ratio is 4.00 : 1. The overdrive is 70 % of direct drive, therefore the effective ratio when in overdrive is 2.80:1 which allows effortless cruising at 65 MPH. Again, the car is equipped with the standard Model A Ford transmission. It has the overdrive unit from a Borg Warner transmission adapted to the drive shaft. Brakes are standard Model A with new old stock Raybestos linings. The brakes are fantastic, yielding straight, sure stopping. The Houdaille shocks are originals that were painstakingly rebuilt. The radiator and shell were NOS parts, as were the headlamps and cowl lamps. The car is equipped with turn signals hidden in the cowl and tail lamps. The ignition switch was recently rebuilt, with a perfectly functioning “popout” feature. The exhaust system is stainless steel.Charging system is 12 volt negative ground. The original Sparton horn has been converted to 12 volts and works very well. All bulbs are 12 volts. The only item on the car that is not working properly is the gas gauge which apparently has a bad float. The steering box is original Model A that has been reworked to use roller bearings. As a result the car has effortless steering. You will be amazed at how easy the car is to drive compared to a standard Model A steering box. The rear trunk is custom contoured to fit the body. A full set of side curtains and attaching hardware is included. All five tires are whitewall Firestone brand. They have correct replated original metal stems. None lose any significant amount of air. Tread remaining on the tires is probably 90% and there is no checking or staining of the white walls. The wind wings are safety glass. All the wind wing hardware is original, replated. The car is equipped with an original Sportlight. This car runs fantastic. I believe you could drive it anywhere with confidence. There is a reserve set at a fair value. The car has a free and clear Texas title. A deposit of $500 is required via Pay Pal if you choose the Buy it Now option or win the auction. The remainder of payment is due within 72 hours of the auction ending. Final payment can be made by wire transfer or express delivery of a check. The car will not be released to the new owner until all funds are shown on deposit in my account. Overseas buyers will be responsible for all arrangements from the time the car departs my driveway. The winning bidder must arrange to pick up the car within 14 days of auction end unless other arrangements are agreed to prior to the end of the auction. Any questions please call 214-538-8838.
