That the 'dawn of motoring' took place in France is a fact where not many people are familiar with. This Hirondelle (French for Swallow) was built by Manufacture Francaise d’Armes et Cycles (MF/ManuFrance). Established in 1885, the gun-producer ManuFrance was France's first mail order company.It was also MF that had the first French company with their own exclusive chain of 12 shopping-malls.It offered a wide range of products, the most famous being guns, bicycles and sewing machines. That it was back in the days a fairly expensive motorcycle can still be seen by it's distinctive look, only after all the years the paint and chrome have turned old/are not nice and clearly showing traces of age and use. It has been in a collection of antique motorcycles since the 1990's and has been stored under controlled conditions since, where the engine has been treated with preservating oil etc. Personally I regard the condition where it is in not as something really disturbing, as machines from this era and in this condition are getting much harder to find and now often command prices higher than nicely restored equivalents, but then of course there’s always the choice of giving this machine a second life by restoring it. I have not tried to get this bike running, but the engine has great compression, turns smoothly by hand without producing any funny noises and was running fine when being put in storage back then, so think it won't take much to get it back alive again.Also all gears are shifting fine and all controls are working like should. This motorcycle comes with an official European Certificate of Origin which document will be issued in your name and states the make, model, year of manufacture, displacement, weight etc, plus an official bill of sale from my company here in Belgium.
