First of the true Defenders, the 1991 model year was when Land Rover introduced the Defender name and the 200 tdi engine. Anything older is a Land Rover 90 or 110, not a Defender. The reserve is reasonable, so bid with confidence. I know the pictures make the paint look blotchy but these were taken in the rain and are not a fair representation of the color . A few of the pictures show a deeper green, they are from when it was still in Italy and in dry weather. If you watch the video link at the end it will be clear that the paint shines well and is not as appears in the pics. For those that are turned off by the Harley Davidson sticker on the hood, it came from Italy and Harley is considered cult cool there, kind of like a Rover is here. Obviously its no issue to remove it. 1991 Land Rover Defender 90 LHD with a factory fitted 200 tdi engine. The 200 tdi engine is vastly superior to the older 19j diesel engines available in Defenders (only one original 200 tdi Defender has been sold so far on ebay as far as I know, the rest are all 19j or 12j engines). This one is in great condition, starts immediately even after sitting and no smoke at all. The VIN is SALLDVAF8HA484321. I have not rolled back the odometer and it does work. so the mileage is genuine. Many Defenders are sold on ebay with 'under 100k miles'. It's funny because I import these from Europe and very few will have mileage that low, if they do the prices are sky high but every other Defender imported to the US seems to have low miles with a fresh paint job and black paint sprayed all over the frames. These are car dealers rolling back odometers because they can get away with it on an imported vehicle, plain and simple. Again just my opinion, please take it as that. Some of the pictures were taken in Italy in dry weather, so the paint looks brighter. Most of them are from a few days ago in Fairfax, VA in wet weather. .At the end of the listing is a video link, copy and paste it into your browser as ebay doesn't allow clickable links. The Defender is in very good overall condition, normal wear and tear for an unrestored vehicle of this vintage. No rust, driver foot well has had some surface rust cleaned and repainted, the metal on the upper foot well is showing some pitting but no holes, it is solid. Foot well rust is extremely common on Defenders as they get older, have not seen one yet that didn't have any. Frame is completely solid with no rust. Has a couple of small unnoticeable dings besides that, but no rust anywhere else. I didn't clean off and repaint any mild surface rust on chassis members as many sellers do. I think one hinge has some surface rust. Also has a working Sony stereo. Flaws: It needs some inexpensive cosmetic fixes. Dash end cap has a piece missing ($25)Heater blower motor not coming on, possibly needing replacement of blower motor. Motor is easily accessible in engine bay. $180 dollars for a new blower motor. In my experience most older Defenders have failed blower motors, the only ones I have seen work are the ones that have been replaced. Not a difficult job.Ignition barrel is operated by two keys, don't know if this is a security add on or an issue with the barrel. A new barrel with two keys is $125. There is no key matching required for the ignition and doors since on Defenders the doors and ignition are operated by seperate keys anyway. There is nothing wrong with the ignition system as it starts immediately every time, its just done using two keys. I have seen this modification on a few Italian Defenders. Changing out the barrel is not difficult for a do it yourselfer, an hour or two job.Driver side seat bottom cover has some stitching that has come undone, could be restitched. A whole new cushion and cover is only about 100 dollars and just pops in but no need for that, any upholstery shop can slide the cover off and repair it or make a new cover. All prices quoted above are from Rovers North, a well known supplier in the US. I can also have these items done before delivery from a local Rover expert if the buyer doesn't want to tackle on their own. The previous owner took care of this Defender. Very few, if any have been imported to the US with the much more desirable 200 tdi engine in original factory configuration. Legally imported from Italy with all customs clearance docs and clear Virginia title in my name, transferrable to a new owner in any state.
