Vehicle Detail

Rarely does an NSU Super Max show up for sale on Ebay. In it's day, NSU was one of the most sought after motorcycles in the world. After it's factories in Germany were destroyed during WWII, NSU reintroduced it's motorcycles in the late 1940's featuring new technologies and therefore greatly improved models. In 1955, barely ten years after the wars end, NSU had become the world's largest manufacturer of motorcycles. During the early 1950's NSU claimed four world motorcycle speed records. The Max was introduced in 1952 and the improved Super Max rolled out in 1956. This bike had a highly acclaimed unique overhead camdrive with connecting rods. Sadly NSU abandoned it's motorcycle production around 1964 to concentrate on production of the Prinz, a small car with the revolutionary wankel engine which ultimately failed. This 1957 bike is a good example of a solid unrestored Super Max. The bike is running and has two new tires. The boxes attached to the rear fender have their keys. The knee pads on the tank are worn and I am including a new pair. Several areas such as the front fender have been repainted. The speedometer records 10132 miles but after nearly 60 years I cannot guarantee this to be correct. The tank has several small dings and a dent on the left side of the tank just above the knee pad. (see picture) I will also include a maintenance manual and an original 1956/57 sales brochure printed in Germany but in English. Several months ago I had the Super Max serviced. A new float needle, float gram need and fuel line were installed. Total servicing cost was a little over $500.00. Road tests on the Super Max have always been complimentary. The Jan., 1961 CYCLE road test of the Super Max had this to say. "To sum up, the CYCLE staff was very pleased with the NSU Super Max. The controls are easy to reach, the brakes work well, lighting is quite good, fuel consumption is excellent....and it is just a smooth, quiet and easy to ride motorcycle." The Dec. 1962 CYCLE WORLD road test was summed up like this; "For all around use, the Super Max is a very satisfactory motorcycle. It is above everything else, sturdy and completely reliable - we know of no other bike that one could ride away on and be more certain of getting to one's destination without incident." This Super Max has a reserve of well below $4000.00 placed on it. Please see all the pictures for details as to the bikes appearance. BUYER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SHIPPING AND SHIPPING COSTS. $500.00 due within 48 hours and the balance is due within 7 days. Thanks for looking.
