Vehicle Detail

This is an as is 1998 Vw Beetle for sale. It would be good for parts or someone who knows how to fix Volkswagen's. Here is the story on the car and why I am selling her. This was an awesome running car and I never had any problems until one day it was raining really hard and a local road was deep with water. I made the mistake of driving threw the water and ruined the engine. I always carry full coverage insurance and luckily my insurance paid for a motor to be put in. Unfortunately I was given very bad advice and was referred to a dirt bag mechanic from Blairsville Pa. who cheated me and does not know what he is doing. He had the car for many months and would keep making excuses why it was not done. Then after getting my money $1525.00 he said that it would not go into overdrive and wanted me to pay for a tranny. I took the car to AMOCO transmission shop and they told me that the transmission is fine and that this was a created problem. The mechanic did not put a Beetle motor in the car (my Beetle had a 2.0 AEG motor) and he put in a 2003 VW Jetta BEV motor with 91,000 miles. Amoco said that the motor does not know how to comunicate with the transmission because they use different ECU computers and this was not changed with the motor. And something about one being drive by cable and one being throttle. I also went to Sendel Vw and two other garages that said a BEV motor can not go in a 1998 Beetle. Even the guy at Auto zone suggested this after reading the error codes. This mechanic thinks he is the smartest Vw guy around and he can not be wrong and refused to even return my call. I have found out since that he has cheated many many people at least a dozen that I have spoken to. I cant find one person that has a good thing to say about him. It is a shame I was referred to him the person who referred him said after he never used him only new of him as a friend (some friend what a joke) . A very expensive lesson learned. He also broke the hood shock that keeps the hood open and melted my battery. The car also has a new Battery so there is a addition $100 plus I spent. I bought a new battery and it has a warranty so you will not have to worry about a dead battery. He also did not have any head light or turn signals hooked up because they were disconnected for the motor swap and he never hooked the wires again. The radio did not work when I got it back and special tools had to be ordered and i got it fixed by some one else, I also had the turn signals hooked back up by someone else. Interior parts were missing when i got it back which I had replace after. When the motor was changed the timing belt and water pump was also changed. I am guessing that a different motor would need put in or the computer would need changed. Maybe the buyer could sell the Jetta engine? The car does start and drive but it does not have overdrive and I think there is something wrong with going into either 1st or 2nd I cant remember and do not know how to tell. I should mention that I am a girl and that probably half the reason he thought he could rip me off. I thought about even keeping and driving in the snow so I got a fresh inspection in November and got new breaks and calipers another $240. I decided it is probably a better idea to try and recover a small portion of my money by selling. Also I must have knocked something loose on the exhaust when I moved the car because it now sounds loud. I looked under it and the muffler looks good. So I am not sure about the exhaust I tried to look under the front but did not see anything and the ground is soaking wet from the snow melting. Please feel free to ask any questions. The car has the following options Power Windows, Power locks, Alarm, Cruise Control,Air Conditioning but it does not work, Airbags, ABS Brakes, Heated Seats that work awesome. The car also has two sets of keys and two alarm FOB's. The is some chips in the hood and I have the chips shown in a picture. Also a small amount of rust in front of the back wheels (I have circled in pictures). And on one side of the roof the is some rust with picture. It is a shame this was not fixed right because I loved this car and it was a great and reliable car and now I cant use it and I am afraid to dump any more money into it.On Feb-06-16 at 14:45:28 PST, seller added the following information: Hello, I added a few pictures of under the car to show where the exhaust leak is. It is not hanging or anything and may be able to be fixed with a clamp or coupler exhaust sleeve. Also I had a super nice guy stop and look at the Beetle today. He used his computer to scan the car with something for Volkswagen codes. He said it only came up with only one code and it was speed sensor. Maybe this may help someone who is interested in my car. Thanks for looking at my auction. On Feb-06-16 at 15:22:57 PST, seller added the following information: I just got asked if any check engine light are on and there are none. The dash lights up a pretty blue and red. I took a picture and tried to add it but I used up all of my picture spots. If anyone would like I can email it to them. Or if anyone know another way to add it please let me know thanks. On Feb-06-16 at 16:28:17 PST, seller added the following information: On Feb-06-16 at 17:05:25 PST, seller added the following information: next picture of dash
