NO RESERVE****MECHANIC'S SPECIAL****This 1980 Mercedes Benz 450 SEL is worthy of the attention it now requires. After recently emerging from a 15 year garaged storage, it was initially running fine. However, shortly thereafter, the appearance of white smoke began and subsequent inspections by my mechanic have determined that this engine is shot! While the engine has not been opened up, so the EXACT CAUSE OF THE TROUBLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED, it is believed that the car has a blown head gasket and/or possibly damaged rings and pistons as it is burning copious amounts of oil. Unless you are a master Mercedes mechanic, it is almost certainly not economically sound to rebuild the current motor and replacing it with another used one is likely the way to go, but that decision, of course, will be made by the new owner. It only has 102, 500+ miles on a working odometer. Transmission shifts fine. The car is always an in California car, right down to the blue California license plates which will transfer with the car. The interior is in good, serviceable shape and the wood is above average for this year. Perfect headliner. Other known issues prior to the engine trouble appearing are a broken and inoperable gas gauge and no instrument cluster lights. A/C needs a charge or conversion to R/134A. Tires are old. all else works. Radio in pictures has been removed but I will provide another, 1990's era Mercedes cassette radio if so desired. Not connected, of course.
