Vehicle Detail

1969 Mercedes 280 SE. The car was originally delivered in Louisville, KY and has been here since new. It has the original set of books in the glovebox, including the metal stamped plate with the original owner's name and local address. It also has the original tool kit, 3 extra factory floor mats and the original spare tire and related tire equipment. I am the 4th local owner, and I bought the car in April 2015. I love the car but I need to reclaim some space in my garage! The first owner owned the car until the late 90's, and the second had it until about 2012. We believe the car has had one, and only one repaint. The car has leather seats, and the leather is original. If you inspect them closely you will find some cracking, but they look good for nearly 50 year old leather. I have restored leather seats to brand new condition before using Leatherique products, available at leatherique.com and these seats are definite candidates for their products. The second owner put only about 100 miles per year on the car, most of them in the early part of his ownership. Because the car sat a lot, the third owner put quite a bit of money into it to get it on the road again. In 2013 the car had all new belts, hoses, motor mounts, radiator and fuel tank flush and some valve work. The receipt is over $3,400 and is included in the glove box. I bought the car in April 2015. Since I bought the car I got the original radio working, replaced the high and low pressure power steering hoses and resealed the steering box. There was also a small rust spot in the floorpan. I took it to a vintage car specialist and he found the correct stamped sheet metal to repair it (I have included a picture, and the only evidence that it has been repaired is that the undercoating is a different color). I have driven the car about 1000 miles in the past year. It drives fantastic, has good tires and everything works except the air conditioning. The car does smoke some, especially when you take off after sitting idling at a traffic light. It hasn't gotten any better or worse since I acquired the car. It also shifts slow until the transmission fluid warms up (you have to take your foot off the gas to go to the next gear until the fluid warms up). As soon as the fluid warms up it shifts appropriately firm. This is a really nice driver quality car.
