Velocette was one of several motorcycle manufacturers in England, which company started in 1904 at Hall Green, Birmingham..Velocette was a small, family-owned firm, selling far fewer hand-built motorcycles than the mass-produced machines of the giant BSA, Norton or Triumph concerns. Renowned for the quality of its products, the company was "always in the picture" in international motorcycle racing, from the mid-1920's through the 1950s, culminating in two World Championship titles (1949–1950 350 cc) and its legendary and still-unbeaten (for single-cylinder, 500 cc machines) 24 hours at 100 mph (161 km/h) record. Velocette, while small, was a great technical innovator and many of its patented designs are commonplace on motorcycles today, including the positive-stop foot shift and swinging arm rear suspension with hydraulic dampers. The Velocette LE (which stands for “Little Engine”) was the result of 20 years of development with the focus being on ease of use, quietness, weather protection, simple controls, economy and reliability. From these design constraints emerged the most radical machine of the day. It is powered by a 192cc, water-cooled, four-stroke, side-valve, flat-twin engine with three speed gearbox and shaft drive. The LE model was produced in relative small numbers (as the main customer for this model was only the police) from 1948 until this company was voluntarily liquidated in February 1971 This unconventional 1970 Velocette LE200 model looks like it must have done when it was in its juvenile days, where also today it still starts instantly, is running as sweet (and silent!) as can be, handles really well, where also the gearbox is shifting fine and everything works like should. The paint and chrome are in a decent condition for the year, though absolutely not perfect and both leg-shields are showing a number of small dings. This is one of the very last LE's produced, as the last one produced in early 1971 has a framenumber that is only 72 digits higher. Today there are not many of the Velocette LE models available on the market, as most of them have been scrapped soon after they retired from police-service, as because of their very outdated looks there was no interest for them on the second-hand motorcycle-market of those days. This particular machine has a code inside the tool-lid on top of the gas-tank with the code LM (=London Metropolitan) 110 (=vehicle number) and has, after it was bought by a Dutch person in 2010, been road-registered in the Netherlands from then on. The odometer reads 22714 mile, which is most probably the correct recording, only have no history to confirm this. Both the rims are still the original 'Dunlop' ones and all gauges, switches, electrical components etc. are all 'made in Great Britain'. Something else interesting is that the original tire-pump is still in place. This motorcycle comes with a clean European (Dutch) title and an official bill of sale from my company here in Belgium. Furthermore I’ll make sure that all the correct export-paperwork will be in place before the bike leaves from here, which documents will make the process of importing it into the US an easy ride. -On this listing I’m offering a special (fully sealed) motorcycle crate, careful packing and physical shipping from here in Belgium to a US CFS-depot as close as possible to you at my expense, meaning that I will pay for having the bike crated and all handling etc. at my end plus the ocean-freight charge, where you are responsible for all charges at your end, like ISF filing, entry fees, port-handling, eventually broker fees etc.If you want any additional information about this, please ask before you place a bid. Furthermore, when you want to receive some better photo's of the bike/shipping, or want to recieve more information about this item, just let me know. I accept PayPal payments. -Additional information to this listing; I only offer shipping by sea, where of course we can advise you on forehand about the process of importing the machine into your country. Like can be read in the link, this antique bike is because of its age and displacement exempt from US import-duty and EPA regulations; https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/278/~/importing-classic-or-antique-vehicles-%2F-cars-for-personal-use The crate will safely sail in a sealed container and the shipment is fully insured for eventual damage/lossI always pack bikes myself, only use certified crates plus new packing-materials and deliver the crated machines in person at the Antwerp warehouse of the shipping-company (see images) Furthermore I pay for having every shipment insured against damage or loss during the complete process of handling and sailing. Of course I will inform you about the complete process of shipping and provide you all the information you need from the beginning on and send you pictures of the process of packing and actual delivery at the Antwerp port as soon as these processes are completed.
