Vehicle Detail
Hey there!I love a reliable car with working everything. Somebody else, though, has decided that they don't want me to have one, and crashed into my front right bumper/upper wheel well. The full cost at full shop rates etc for the repairs, according to the reputable M & D Auto Body, is $2449.00. The accident did lightly intrude onto the engine compartment, where the air filter and radiator fluid reservoir are. They have been pushed, and their mounting brackets broken. I drove the car down the street. It seemed to have working steering, although the alignment has been knocked off. The tire where the accident occurred shows some damage to the tread, but holds air just like normal. Please note - the title to this car is still clean, and was not declared salvage or anything of the sort. It's driveable down the street, but I had it towed the 4 miles from the accident site to the auto body shop. I purchased the car at 35k mileage from a nice Japanese diplomat in Washington DC 8 years ago. It now has 140k miles, and has never left me stranded. I recently used Shin-Etsu grease purchased from a Honda dealer to lube the (all-power) windows recently and they are working perfectly, along with the perfectly working sunroof. All interior bits and pieces are in excellent, and occasionally just good, shape. I have 3 keys for the car, and I had those keys purchased straight from the dealer 2 years ago to make sure that the locks would continue to match the manufacturers specifications. Things that are generally wrong. The button light for the cruise control is not working. There is a check engine light on in the car indicating that the O2 sensor is flagging a problem. Code P0420. The car has a valid registration and emissions pass sticker on it till 6/2016.I backed into a curb and knocked the muffler slightly recently. This is especially annoying because I replaced the muffler and rear tailpipe assembly 3 years ago recently as it had rusted out or something.I typically use Bobby of AA Auto Repair in Falls Church, and he indicated that he thought he could hammer out the muffler. I have the documents, and I know the muffler is under warranty. It could use new exhaust pipe under the car, or maybe one could fix it with that foil wrapping stuff. I just didn't care enough to figure it out. I did the full 120k mile service and started putting in full synthetic. It does leak a tiny little bit of oil. I paid for all new engine/timing belts and did all the other assorted service tasks at that time. There is no evidence of rust etc.I purchased and have all the warranty paperwork for a full set of Michelin X-Radial, high mileage, high quality tires from Costco, which includes lifetime helium tire fillups and balance and rotation. There is about 50-70% (varying between the tires) of treadwear remaining. These are top of the line tires from Costco/Michelin and go for about 125 each, which is much more than the typical, low-mileage and low quality cheapo tires from Firestone etc. I learned my lesson when I bought a set of those and they wore out after 35k miles. These have a 80k (!) mile warranty on the tires. It's the EX model from the most successful run of Civics. The EX is top-of-the-line for Civics. It has power windows, power locks, power steering, power side mirrors, defrost on the back window, a remote unlock and relock button (I lost the fob, but it worked fine). It all works. The CD player is in great shape, although the volume control knob is a little weird. The steering wheel mounted cruise control works great. The AC and the heating both work great. It has rear disk brakes and front drum brakes. I moved to MD and the process required me to replace the disk brake pads in the rear, but that was awhile ago. No issues with the brakes though. The car starts reliably in all conditions and the transmission is strong and the shifts are smooth. The 1996-2000's didn't change much, and that's cause the didn't want to screw with a good thing. This is a super popular and easy to fix car with tons of spare parts and other civics of similar make and model to pull parts from. It's mechanical reliability is amazing. It's got the upgraded EX - 127 HP- engine with SOHC VTEC - it has a ton of pep, and will squeal tires if the people who are driving it aren't used to cars that really go at a stoplight. It's nothing amazing though. But a 21% increase in HP over the stock 2000 Civic DX (which has 106 HP) makes all the difference in the world in terms of it's desire to get up and go. I don't believe in pretty things as much as I believe in delivering awesomeness. The civic's exterior has scratches etc, and the rear bumper shows years of city parking. I replaced the windshield 6 months ago due to a crack that had kept expanding, but no problems with it since then. I replaced the driver side rear view mirror last month after someone knocked it off. Please feel free to make me an offer if that's what works for you. Thanks for viewing.
