I bought this sprinter for myself for $4,600 with a broken timing chain. I fixed the engine by myself.The shop did the heads and installed new valves, new valve seals, I put new head bolts, all gaskets, new timing chain and all components, including rails, new timing chain tensioner, new intake manifolds with new motor for them, new glow plugs, oil cooler and many more things that I don't remember right now. I repaired this engine with factory specs and the engine now runs great. The transmission was done approximately 1000 miles before the timing chain broke. My buddy told me that the body will be an easy fix and he will do it dirt cheap for me (when we spoke he said that will be the most $1,500). So meanwhile I bought the parts (the passenger doors and the pillar) on the sliding doors the bottom door skin only needs to be changed) But when I finished the engine and put this truck back together, he said that this will cost me around 4k. If this is "dirt cheap" for him, is not dirt cheap for me. Here is the Carfax history that I pulled out for you.
