That the 'dawn of motoring' took place in France is a fact where not many people are familiar with. The company 'Monet & Goyon' was formed in 1917 by Joseph Monet and Adrien Goyon. It began manufacturing invalid carriages for disabled WW1 veterans. In 1920 they became agents for the British Autocycle company and then in 1922 produced their first motorcycle. During the 1920's they built an excellent reputation for sporty flat tank bikes such as the Z147 and Z175. Monet & Goyon had considerable racing success including winning the Bol D'or six times between 1927 and 1948. They produced a wide range of models until closure in 1959. The factory was in Macon one hour north of Lyon, France. This very stylish 1950 twin-port S3GD model is a motorcycle that is also in Europe hardly ever on offer. The odometer-reading is 4287 km / 2669 mile, only have no idea whether this is correct.In optical way the motorcycle looks very distinctive, though the paint is old/not nice and showing age (many small cracks, see image) and use. It has been put in storage a number of years ago in good running condition, only in case you want to bring it back to the road again, the motorcycle needs to be checked through completely. In the era that this machine was produced, it was normal that gears had to be changed by hand on a motorcycle by using a gear-shift lever that was positioned on the side of the gas-tank.This machine has been equipped with a (for the time very advanced) gearshift control by foot of the make 'Reflex', which was a fairly expensive optional extra back in 1950. Another nice thing is that the original tire-pump is still on. This motorcycle has never been road-registered and comes with an official European Certificate of Origin plus an official bill of sale from my company here in Belgium.
