1978 Triumph Bonneville

Up for auction is a 1978 Triumph Bonneville T-140. The bike has always ran very good and typically starts in two kicks. As you can tell from the pictures, it’s also in great cosmetic shape with the exception of the exhaust pipes which have some battle scars which I’ve done my best to evidence in the photos. A great example of a vintage British motorcycle and great starter bike. I purchased the bike in April 2013 and rode it a few times a week during riding season throughout 2013 and 2014 (even doing a 5 day tour of New England last Summer). Unfortunately, a new job has me traveling quite a bit and allows me almost no time to ride and a bike like this belongs in a home where someone is going to get on it a lot more frequently than I can. While the bike always ran fine, last Fall/Winter I had a quite a bit of work done on it after noticing the head gaskets leaking and having issues with the rear tail light. I had all the work done by a local mechanic who specializes in vintage British bikes and had the following done:- Rebuilt top end; new gaskets throughout- Carbs tuned and timed and O-rings replaced- New pistons and rings- Cylinders bored out- Valve adjustment- New wiring harness installed- Front springs replaced- Front fork oil seals replaced and new fluid added- Front lower O-ring shock seals replaced- Frame bead blasted and repainted- New rear tire and tube- New rear brake pads installed- New spark plugs- New battery- New clutch cable- New gas lines installed- Chain adjustment- All fluids dumped/replacedInvoices for the work can be provided if desired. The bike is still in the break-in period and hasn’t been ridden more than 200-300 miles since the top-end was rebuilt. Also included are the manuals pictured above which can come in handy if you’re mechanically inclined. Now for the bad…the speedometer does not work and while the odometer currently reads 7,219, it stopped functioning about two years ago and after the rebuild this past Winter it actually started rolling miles off the bike after it was reassembled (not sure exactly how that happens). I would estimate that somewhere in the neighborhood of 4,000-5,000 miles have been put on the bike since it stopped working bringing total mileage up to somewhere between 11-13K. Secondly, I do not currently have the title to the bike as I purchased in CT where a title isn’t required for registration on a motorcycle over 20 years old (only a bill of sale is needed to register and legally transfer ownership). That said, I am in the process of obtaining a duplicate title from the state which is estimated to take 15 days. I am happy to hold off on executing the transaction until I have title in hand, however, if you are located in CT or any number of other states that don’t require titles for bikes of this age and would like to pick up prior to receipt of the duplicate in the interest of time (and a dwindling riding season), I'm happy to arrange (needless to say I will provide the duplicate title as soon as I receive it). In the meantime, I do have a copy of the original registration application and registration which indicates proper, legal ownership of the bike which I can provide. Lastly, while the bike is currently running great, I want to make clear that this bike is being sold AS IS and I provide no warranty over its future operating performance.The bike is located in Simsbury, CT and is available for local pick-up.
