Vehicle Detail
1973 VW Camper Pop Adventurer Conversion Ive sold about 5 buses on ebay in the last 2 yrs and have never had some many flakes bidding on my buses, but here we go again. BTW I WILL END THE AUCTION EARLY FOR for a fair offer around 5k OBO. Up for Auction: LOW FAIR RESERVE !!! BID TO WIN !! Yes, AZ title in hand -please read ALL of our description even after the all the pics below. A very RARE Conversion bus ! This 1973 VW ADVENTURER CAMPER Bus Conversion !! Kombi / Type 2 / Campmobile/ Westy , so many names. is a low mileage barn find and one of the most popular and sought after model Type 2s on the market today. I dont think Ive seen one of these on the road locally in over 10 yrs around here. I dont know exactly how many of these where built, but there are a few ID Tags around the body that help identify exactly what it is. A great candidate for a full restoration project vehicle... with a great starting point. It has been parked since about 2005. We got receipts with it for Front and rear Brakes including new : pads, calipers and rotors up front and shows and drums in the rear. Also has new outter tie rod ends and upper & lower ball joints in 04 . Since it was parked in 05 they are still basically new. Tires where also bought new in 2004 and look new. We drained all the old gas today and and after some creative wiring done (pushbutton switch on the dash and a hot wire to the coil) we pumped the gas a few times and after a few cranks it fired up and idled! I let it run for about 5 min and then I saw some ATF fluid leaking from the trans so I cut it off. So I know it runs and while it was running I did move it back and forth about 15 ft each way to check the transmission and it worked at least enough to do that. Its going to need work to fix the wiring and leak of course, not sure what else it may need. It is running off gas in the tank, the gas pedel is a little sticky. Going to try to fix that this week. Valves did sound a little noisy not sure if it was from sitting so long or if it needs a valve adjustment. You could always just yank the motor and do a Subaru Flat 6 or 4 into it !! and gain over 100 hp !! It to me is a great way to go if you plan on using it alot . Although this car has resided in Az most, if not all its life I noticed very little if any real rust issues with the Van under neath it, and most of it is surface rust. will see by the 100+ pics below what we are talking about, the AZ climate has kept it all from getting worse. I still consider it a very low rust vehicle compared to most I keep seeing on ebay in the mid west or back east wet humid climates. The rubber is dry around all the gaskets and really most of the whole cars needs restoration, just depending on how far you want to go with it. THIS is a very rare model bus and not many left in this survivor type condition and not rotted out from the bottom up. IF YOU NEED HELP SHIPPING BACK TO THE UK which alot of these are going lately, I can help get it to the docks in Tx or Ca for a good price if you need help there. Odometer shows 21312 , it sat so long without being used there is a chance its original miles, but cant verify at the moment. DRIVETRAIN: Original motor and auto trans. Think its a 1.7L Looks like someone did the right thing and install a Weber carb at one time. At the moment, the tires are good, new in 04 and would be okay for around town, not sure about a road trip. Brakes feel good and the car stops fine, Ebrake also works too. Judging by some receipts that came with the Van, F/R brakes had alot of work done in 2004 in which after that, the Van was barely driven and parked mostly, only used for camping trips outside the Tucson area a few times. The worst place I found rust was under the battery box area. It it will need to be replaced. INTERIOR: mostly still all original interior with a few things changed I can see. Seems very complete too. You could drive it as is and restore it while you are using it too. Being a Camper High top you have more amenities, but more stuff to restore too.. If the interior was really cleaned up, and mildly restored, it would be fine for a driver. The old laminated wood panels took the worst of it all, they are coming apart all around and need to be replaced. Front seats need to be redone too as well as most of the whole interior youll see in the pics. The good news: its seems very complete and not missing much at all. This really makes doing a correct restoration easier and cheaper. I think they are still the original curtains, but are very dry rot. Havent really tested the sink, stove or fridge yet, but they should work as is but cant promise since I havent tested them out yet. Dash not to bad of shape. Keep in mind, the heat and dryness has taken its toll on some exposed areas of the van. Original tables, rear seat, and many components there and restorable. Overall the interior does need a good cleaning and needs alot of restoration front to back if you are making a show car. Has a cool 12v plug adaptor thing behind pass side front seat too. Some people love it just the way it looks.... and smells :) Its probably going to need a new wiring harness under the dash. EXTERIOR: Original color was orange lower / white upper. Sometime in the vans life someone painted the whole van Orange. The paint has obviously seen better days, but some folks really like the patina. It is old enamel paint, so you could maybe wetsand and buff whats on there and see how well it comes back. The body is very straight and clean along both sides / top and rear. Glass all seems very good too front to back, but there is a 2" star chip in the ft windshield. The fiberglass Adventurer Camper Top is in very nice shape for its age too. The top has lots of room for extra storage too on top. Check out all the pics below and youll see how clean the body really is, and how clean it is under the Van on the floors from the outside. Sure its dirty and still some spider webs under there, but its a very solid van underneath. Only dent Ive seen, up front on the nose, you really cant miss it. The fiberlass top I did see a little damage to an area about a foot long where it looks like it got scraped or something. Its fiberglass so fixing it really isnt a big deal. SUSPENSION: FRONT disc brakes are nice, but rest of the suspension does look original, it may not need as much work as you think, but some of the rubber bushings may be dryrot . but again this stuff is easy and cheaper to fix these days compared to fixing rusted out bodies for days.. Should come apart fairly easy too because of the lack of east coast style rust. Please check out our FEEDBACK its there for a reason and to help the buyer make an educated decision on who they trust to buy from long distance.. Also our pics are probably more detailed then anyone one else selling a Vw on ebay. We go all over and under the vehicle, and even take off wheels to get the best pics. Its a shame everyone doesnt market their vehicles as detailed as we do. Check out ALL the pics below -----> it may take a full minute for them all to load if you have a slow connection, so be patient AND looks for the extra scroll bar on the right side. Az gets maybe 12" a yr of rain and Az very dry climate. more info AFTER the pics etc. There are 100 large pics. There you have it, probably The BEST represented Type 2s on Ebay. Shows you all the good as well as any bad, hope you appreciate them. We put a lot of time and effort in marketing our cars and it shows. People wait months for a car this solid to come up for sale and even if you have to pay shipping to your area, it still beats paying a body shop to hopefully fix a rusty car for weeks on end. Having as much as the original steel on a restored car these days speaks volumes. Also, if you buy a car thats been "restored", who knows what sort of surprises are hidden under new paint or thick undercoating. People are flipping cars all the time when most of the jobs are fast, for a quick buck and quality suffers. Our auctions have NOTHING to hide . YES , this Van does have some areas or pockets of rust that will need to be fixed for a proper restoration, but the body etc is still in way better condition then most VWs vans this old. ARIZONA has been very nice to this vehicle like most of the cars we sell online. Restore a car like this yourself or locally and you know exactly what you have in the end. Email us with ANY questions before you bid please If you treat yourself to buying one of our vehicles youll never buy a total rust bucket again from anyone !! Our Impeccable FEEDBACK speaks for itself. Doing restoration on this type of project is less labor intensive which means overall cost is less too ! With less horrid surprises later on. Dont let auctions with little to no pics try to fool you. With other auctions, you really dont know what to expect until you take the car apart. While we go over our cars ALL OVER with great pics to help making your decision easier. Along with ANY other questions you may have. Email me for a quote for shipping. NO PAYPAL for $500 deposit only - rest direct bank deposit or wire Must be paid within 5 days of auction On Jun-02-15 at 18:57:12 PDT, seller added the following information: I DID NOTICE TODAY THAT THE FRONT WINDSHIELD DOES HAVE A STAR IN IT ABOUT 2" diameter and a long crack on the pass side. So it will need a new one in the future eventually. On Jun-03-15 at 03:29:34 PDT, seller added the following information: During the new owners restoration, I suggest buying at least a new wiring harness for underthe dash, this one is pretty cut up. All the lights are working, hopefully we can get it started on WED.Check back with us everyday to get up update !! I have one of my best VW guys working on it soon. Its still a great restorable van as is, but Id really like to hear it run myself and drive it around the parking lot at least too before we sell it. We are using a pushbutton switch and wire off the batteryto run at the moment. It sounds okay, but loud like the lifters need adjusting, maybeit was just because it sat so long. But it sat there and idled for a good 5 min until I noticed trans fluid leaking out pretty bad, I restarted the car about 20 min later and briefly drove it around the parking lot tryingto check the brakes and transmission. It drove around the parking lot okay meanwhileleaking trans fluid and the brakes stopped it. Im not sure it could be considered operationalyet fully, because its tricky starting it unless you know how to.BUT I can still get it shippedto the docks in LA CA for a fair price because the guys I use work with me all the time.
