Vehicle Detail

We have up for auction a 1980 Honda CM400A, Hondamatic. The bike was purchased for a cafe project but soon after taking ownership of the bike we discovered just how nice it was. We acquired it from the second owner. She had operated the bike until early 2012 when her husband became ill and later died. Prior to her husband becoming ill she had new tires installed and had the carbs rebuilt. After some extensive cleaning and maintenance we decided this motorcycle was just too nice to cut up for a cafe project so we're selling it to look for another donor bike. We've replaced the air filter with a K&N unit. The original mufflers had rusted baffles which rattled so we replaced those with cocktail-shaker mufflers from EMGO. We've replaced the spark-plugs, oil and filter. We've installed a brand new YUASA battery. The chain has been cleaned and lubricated. Sprockets show very little wear. The mirrors had been previously replaced with a set of fully adjustable mirrors but the set screws were all stripped so we replaced those with a new set of EMGO's. The front master cylinder and caliper have been rebuilt, the brake system has been flushed/bled and new EBC brake pads installed. The bike starts easily and runs great. All of the electrics work perfectly. The sheet metal on the bike is equally nice. The paint and decals/stripes are very good. We found one tiny scratch near the gas cap but it has been touched up. The nameplates on the tank are starting to flake in the flat black area between the letters. This is very common on Honda emblems but they would be an easy restoration. The chrome on the bike is very nice for a 35 year old bike. There are some hazy/static scratches on the front fender but you have to look close to see them. The rest of the chrome is near perfect. The seat is very nice and the gold lettering on the back is still vibrant. The original owner's manual and tool kit are still under the seat. It has one original key with an original Honda V45-Magna key-fob. The wheels are also very nice. There is some pitting in the exhaust head-pipes and a double-ding on the lower right pipe from a loading ramp mishap. There is also a small ding in the speedo housing from something being dropped on it. The engine side cases have some areas where the clear coat is letting go which is very common on vintage Hondas. It would take a little elbow grease and some time but this is also an easy restoration. There are no signs that the bike has ever been dropped or crashed. With the exception of normal maintenance items everything on the bike is original but the mirrors and mufflers. The bike came with a chrome luggage rack(shown in the photo with the tool kit & Owner's Manual). It is in very good condition and comes with the bike but is not currently installed. Mileage on the odometer will be slightly higher than shown in photo. We're still riding it locally once or twice a week. We've tried to accurately describe the bike but please ask if you have any questions. We've insured and plated this bike for the last two summers and have put several hundred miles on it. It is easy and fun to ride for the experienced rider or for someone new to motorcycling. The Honda CMs were the forerunners to the Rebel so they're relatively light and have that low seat height that a lot of riders are looking for. Motorcycle sold as is. We require a deposit of $250.00 at the close of the auction via PayPal. Balance must be paid in full within 10 days of the auction ending. Balance may be paid with cash or certified bank check. Winning bidder must arrange/pay shipping or pick-up from our address. We can hold the bike for up to 30 days so long as full payment has been received within 10 days. We set a low reserve price to sell quickly. We have a clear Indiana title in hand. No first time eBayers or deadbeats please. USA customers ONLY. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding!
