Vehicle Detail
Scroll to the bottom for full size pics. For sale is this neat old truck, a 1949 Ford F-1. This truck was restored a number of years ago and has now developed a nice kind of lived-in patina. Mechanically the truck is terrific, cosmetically it's not so perfect that you'd be afraid to really get out there and use it. This is the type of truck that you can take to a car show on Saturday morning and then run errands in later in the day. I am a dedicated car guy and went through each system on the truck to make sure I would feel comfortable using it on a regular basis. It has a 3 speed transmission mated to a stock 239 Flathead V8 that runs great and always starts at the push of the button. This truck is super solid top to bottom, This is a very original truck that hasn't been messed with like so many. It's always in the various local Christmas parades and is also in the local college homecoming parade each year. Several businesses have used it in videos for their business. The paint is driver quality, it looks good from 10 feet but is not show quality. Expect to find some imperfections here and there but it is well accepted as is no matter where I go. It's just not $10,000 paint, which is probably just as well for what it is. Most everyone who sees this truck loves it, it definitely attracts a lot of attention wherever it goes. Body panels are all very straight and for a truck, it has pretty good panel fit. Both bumpers are straight and in good condition. All lights work, the electrical system has been upgraded to 12V. This included a new GM alternator and new coil. At the same time all new plugs, wires, distributor cap and button were installed. All of the glass is in good shape and at the time of restoration all new rubber gaskets were installed. Tires are new. The carb has been rebuilt. It has a new fuel pump and new hard lines everywhere. The gas tank was removed and cleaned. The 239 Flathead V8 fires to life instantly and runs out really well. The truck has been converted to 12V and features a Pertronix ignition. All new brakes were installed at the time of restoration and work great. The drivetrain was rebuilt when the truck was restored and has very few miles put on it since. This truck has a one year old wood bed kit installed. It is select pine boards ordered from a local wood supplier with multiple coats of spar varnish. The skid strips and carriage bolts are polished stainless steel and came from Bed Wood & Parts. The bed is also made to lift out as a unit for access to the chassis below. The interior has the same feel as the exterior - nice, but not so perfect that you have to worry about a few specs of dirt every now and then. The seat has taken on a comfortable patina. Steering wheel is original but does not have the horn button installed. Pretty simple setup here, just the basics. The black headliner kit is complete and in excellent condition as is the single factory sun visor. And yes the vacuum operated wiper works just fine as does the cowl vent. Part of this truck's beauty lies in the fidelity of its undercarriage. Never hit or rusted solid, this is about as good as they get. When the new bed wood was put in I wire brushed, cleaned and painted the chassis from the cab back. The rest toward the front is in great condition but just needs the same treatment as the rear. Recent work has been done to the exhaust. This truck is being sold with a modest reserve so bid knowing that the purpose is to actually sell this truck. There are only a few small places on the truck that can be addressed if desired. The truck is great for me as is and none of the "beauty marks" have ever stopped the attention the truck gets. There is nothing on the truck that needs immediate attention in my book. As a matter of fact at Crusin the Coast I seemed to be one of the few people that didn't give the whole truck the grunge look. About Payment: The winning bidder must make a $500 deposit via paypal to islandfvr@gmail.com at the end of the bidding process. Balance and pick up of the truck is due (bank check or bank wire transfer only) within 7 calendar days of auction end. If you choose to use a bank check it must be during bank operating hours to allow for verification. I've sold quite a few of these so I'm sure we can work payment out with no problems. About this auction: This auction process is a legally binding contract into which you enter when you click "confirm" on your bid. Please have finances in order before you decide to bid and please ask all questions before you decide to bid. Basically, please only bid if you are ready to purchase this truck. Truck is sold as-is with no warranties express or implied. License plate is not included. By bidding you agree to these terms. About me: I am just a regular old Ford truck lover like you. I've owned over 10 of these 48-56 trucks. This one by far is the most original and clean of them all. I own this truck outright and the pictures were taken last week. I'm building a house and am selling a few toys to pay for it. Of all my trucks over the years I would love to be able to keep this one. I know it's rare to find one that is this complete. I literally have people chase me down in parking lots to ask questions about it and ask to take pictures. You are welcome to inspect the truck in person before the close of the auction. I can be reached via email at islandfvr@gmail.com between the hours of 9am-8pm Central Time. Send me your number and I'll be happy to call you. Post Auction details: The transport cost is the responsibility of the winning bidder, although I'll be happy to help with logistics. Back when I got the truck I bought it from a family out of Georgia and have the Georgia title in hand signed over to me. The state of Alabama does not title any vehicles this old but this will be no problem. I will provide you will all documentation and a valid Bill of Sale. My last truck sold a few years ago and went to New York with no issues at all. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding!
