Vehicle Detail
1966 Coupe Deville Convertible I found this car after it sat in a garage for 39 years! It was last on the road in 1975. The owner used it as a second car for him and his wife to have fun with. He was the second owner and bought it with 16644 miles in 1974. The odometer now shows 48XXX miles. Not sure if odometer works since I haven't driven the car. Don't let the bondo fool you. The bondo is covering dents not rust or rot. The garage this car was parked in was at a ridiculous angle to get the car inside of. The guys grandson told me that pretty much every time his granddad tried to get the garage he dented the car. Thus you see replacement blue door on the car now (the other is solid and in the trunk) and the replacement front fenders (only the passenger side has a rot hole on the bottom. You will also notice the skirts are sitting in the back seat with the door panels and the trunk is FULL of extra parts (all exterior trim is there) like 3-4 sets of hubcaps - chrome and brightwork - front light parts - front grill - (I think an extra bumper but don't quote me on that) - door - perfect set of front bumperettes to replace the ones on the front of the car that are junk. The best part of the car is the fact that I got it back to my garage and checked the coolant and oil and they looked great. I hooked up a battery and bypassed the gas tank - whacked the starter solenoid - turned the key and she started on the second crank. Motor sounded great (let it run for 30 seconds or so) but the exhaust is junk and needs to be replaced. Some of the interior lights came on - the clock worked - the convertible top went up and down slowly but it worked. The car has been parked in the same spot for about a month and there is no fluid on the ground. I haven't done much beyond this as I have 2 other projects to build and two in my garage in process. The frame - rockers - quarters - doors - fenders (except the lower passenger area) hood - trunk lid are extremely solid. The car has a film of oil on the bottom of it which was the way people "way back in the day" kept their cars and trucks from rotting on the east coast from the salt and sand they use on the roads. The trunk strut towers are solid but there are a couple holes in the floor that are simple to fix. The roof window could be patched and the roof could be used but its far from mint condition. There are no rips in it though and it latches to the roof fine. All the glass seems good as well. Front seat bottom needs to be redone but the back looks great.Overall this is an extremely solid project that would take a couple weekends of work to get back on the road (if you don't want to deal with the bodywork for a while). Considering it sat for 39 years it will need the typical stuff like brake lines - fuel lines - tires - breaks - tuneup - battery - starter j- clean radiator - clean gas tank etc to her to be road worthy. I have no idea beyond that what it will take but I'm just trying to say that this isn't a car that you can drive home but it's a great start. It needs work but try finding another 66 Convertible on the East Coast that's not restored and this solid...YOU CAN'T :)I don't want to see this car sit and get worse so it needs to go to a good home and get the love it deserves. I'm offering the car at NO RESERVE for this reason. These cars are becoming extremely popular and fetching huge prices at auction when redone. I have the car for sale locally and reserve the right to end the auction early. The car comes with all its original paperwork (including protect o plate) and a clear Massachusetts title. If you want more pictures of the car you can come take them :). If you win the auction and want to ship the car I will put a tire on the car that holds air. Thanks and Happy Bidding.
