1968 FORD MUSTANG 2-Door HARDTOP COUPE VIN: 8R01C102422 97,000 original miles ENGINE: 289cc V-8 partial rebuilt in 2000 @75,000 miles TRANSMISSION: C4 Automatic 3 speed EXTERIOR COLOR: Sunlit GoldINTERIOR COLOR: Nugget Gold Crinkle & Kiwi Vinyl Deluxe Hi. Welcome to a historical timepiece in fantastic condition. Multiple aspects make this Mustang special. They include: 1) 1) Known owner history with maintenance records, original ownercards (service and warranty), and owner’s manual with vinyl sleeve. 2) 2) Rust inhibited body from the desert of eastern Oregon 3) 3) Unmolested. Stock car with original paint suggesting the car was garaged or kept under carport. 4) 4) Deluxe restored interior with rare overhead console featuring dual map lights and center console. Original padded vinyl dash. 5) 5) Plus many extras like louvered hood and dealer installed overhead console. I’m told this is an early 1968 production car with some finish attributes of the 1967 model year. OWNER HISTORY: This car was purchased by Dr. G.K. Lewis on December 8, 1967 for his wife Geneva who put 72,000 miles on it until inherited by her son Robert in 1999. He sold it to Paul Leapaldt of Bend Oregon in 2007. I purchased the car in 2009 from a dealer representing Mr. Leapaldt with 92,549 miles on the odometer. I have kept the car in an enclosed garage and do not drive it in wet weather. CONDITION MINIMAL RUST! The car was apparently kept in the low humidity desert environment of eastern Oregon, specifically the Redmond-Bend area, for the majority of its life. The exception being a 6 year period (2000-2006) in Seattle Washington upon the car being inherited by the original purchaser’s son. How do I know this? Mrs. Lewis obituary, maintenance records, title transfer records, and the previous owner. This car is remarkably free of rust due to being in the western U.S. until I purchased it in 2009 and had it shipped to Virginia. Since then I have kept it in an enclosed garage and out of wet weather. I’ve only found one area of concern under the battery tray but it is not serious and I haven’t considered it bothersome. UNMOLESTED: This car came stock when I purchased it in 2009 from a dealer in Bend, Oregon representing the owner (consignment sale). A stock unmolested car like one would have obtained from the dealer in 1968 was the type of mustang I was looking for. No dress up kits or aftermarket hot rod add-ons. Just an all original Ford Mustang which is difficult to find after 47 year. I paid a local body shop to check the paint depth with an electronic device and look for bondo repairs underneath before purchase. None were found and a uniform paint thickness of 4-6 micrometers was reported. I had no idea it was original paint until I received the car. The driver’s seat was torn and the carpet needed replacing when I purchased it, otherwise she was fully intact. I put $2800 worth of parts into her which I have receipts for and are detailed below. FEATURES DELUXE RESTORED INTERIOR: I replaced and added new: carpet, deluxe floor mats, seat cushions, seat upholstery, door panels, rear package tray, front and rear speakers, radio (have original working AM radio), instrument cluster bezels and clear parts, plasticized chrome and faux wood grain veneer inserts on dash. I also repainted the interior metal portions of the doors and center console insert original color. Carpet and dash are original color brown. Car includes factory automatic courtesy lights in each door and back of center console for rear seating area and the original 2 toned steering wheel with wood highlights. I replaced all dash and interior illumination bulbs including ones in the transmission gear indicator. 1968 was the first year they added crash safety features like seat belts and padded dash components. BODY/CHASSIS: new front coil springs and rear leaf springs (really improved handling), new sway bar and strut rod bushings, heater core replaced and air plenum rebuilt/seal kit, new tires (Cooper Tiger Paw), new brake hoses, halogen headlights, doors rebuilt with new body seals and window felts, new trunk liner and spare tire cover, replaced hood hinges and door hinge pins. Spoked wheel covers from a Thunderbird are shown and original wheel covers are included as well. As a precaution I added plastic cowl vent repair kits while the plenum was out but really was unnecessary. These commonly rusted out areas were intact and undamaged. Rare to find a mustang this way! This car also includes the optional louvered hood with blinker indicator inserts. Replaced and restored all exterior emblems that were faded. Replaced dust/spray covers in wheel wells. ENGINE: new Petronix Flamethrower electronic ignition, coil, and plug wires “stock look”; new exhaust manifolds, carburetor professionally rebuilt by Pony Carburetors, Inc., exhaust system replaced with Ford factory correct dual exhaust (this and the electronic ignition are the only non-stock items I added), power steering pump rebuilt and lines replaced. New valve cover gaskets and engine decals. I kept coil, points, and condensor for those wanting to convert back to original. Motor doesn't leak or burn any oil and there is no oil smoke emitted at start up. No burning oil smell during operation. If you want a stock, unmolested, unaltered, nearly rust Ford Mustang in rare condition and a classic color then this is the car for you. The exterior paint has a few imperfections and is not perfect considering it’s 47 years old but I wanted to let the new owner decide if to repaint it or not. I have receipts for $2800 in new parts and kept most parts that would be required by someone wanting to convert it back to original 1968 stock that came with the car. It also comes with the previous owner’s receipts for work completed at service centers/repair shops.Car is for sale locally and auction may end early if the reserve price has not been met.
