Vehicle Detail
We purchased this car new in 2000. It has held up very well and given excellent service. It’s a very practical, safe, and reliable vehicle. It's ready to take you anywhere you want to go. So why are we selling it, you ask? We wanted to get a new car we could pay off before retiring in a few years. What did we replace it with? A new Subaru Outback. We stick with good things. We expect to have the new one for an equally long time, if not longer. Basics: 4-cylinder boxer engineOne owner car, complete service records available228,316 miles (At time of listing. Will be a bit more if someone test drives it.) Manual transmission (original clutch replaced at about 190,000 miles)Anti-lock brakes 6-way power driver seat (back angle is manual), heated front seats (nice in cold weather!)60/40 split folding rear seat, folds flat (see pictures)Original adjustable roof rackCruise controlLimited slip rear differential Seat belts for three in the rear (center shoulder belt stores in ceiling)Remote door lock/unlock with intrusion alarm (two key fobs included)High-end Michelin all-season tires with plenty of tread (60,000 mile tires with about 24,000 on them)Timing belt replaced at 202,000 miles (good for another 70,000) (water pump replaced at same time) Head gaskets replaced at 110,000 miles (common problem of that era Subarus)Never been in an accident, always kept in garage at homeNever been towed (it never left us stranded) Only body issues are a couple of door bump marks and a bit of paint peeling on the front bumper It's a Subaru, so it has all-wheel drive and it handles snow well (and is good on dirt roads and two-tracks).Everything works except a few of the tiny lights embedded in various switchesMileage (mixed driving): typically ~24 MPG in summer, ~22 MPG in winter (better on long distance highway trips, less with two canoes on top or towing a trailer) Uses about 1 quart of oil every 2000 milesSuspension is fine Two recalls on car, both completedBattery has been handling the recent cold weather in Michigan just fine, although it is 5 years old.Rear brakes redone last year (pads and rotors). Front brakes have 50,000 miles on them, so they may need redoing within a couple of years.Has halogen fog lights. One of them has a crack in the lens, but that’s been there for a long time and the light works fine. Extras: Trailer hitch – will tow up to 1500 lbs, or use for hitch-mount bike rack; we’ve towed boats and U-Haul trailers with it on occasion and still got 190,000 miles out of the original clutchAftermarket JVC radio with HD radio, CD player, iPod/iPhone compatibility (USB port), auxiliary input, removable front, and remote control Heated front seats, heated power external mirrors, windshield heater along windshield wipersAuto-dimming rear view mirror with compass The only thing that could be considered “wrong” is that the "check engine" light stays on and has for at least the last 50,000 miles. Our mechanic says it’s just oxygen sensors around the catalytic converter in the exhaust system and not worth repairing since it runs fine (when a mechanic says something isn’t needed, we tend to believe him since he’s turning down work). We'll be happy to let you take a look at it and give it a test drive until day before the auction closes (location: Brighton, Michigan area) Buyer can arrange pickup in Brighton, Michigan or we will bring the car to any U.S. location within 3 hours drive of Brighton for completion of sale.
