Vehicle Detail

Up for auction, 1976 Ford Pinto V6, automatic. As with any old car there's gotta be some pros and cons. Luckily for this Pinto the pros outweigh the cons by quite a bit. First of all, it's not a rusty car. It has always been here in California, and still wears her original paint. The chrome and trim is all there and in really good shape, no pitting. It's probably some of the best trim I've had on any Pinto in recent years. The engine always starts and runs well, the transmission shifts good, the brakes are in good shape. the Pinto came with the optional V6 German 2.8 liter, so there is no timing belt to worry about. It's the same motor they used in the Ranger, Mustang II, and Capri. It also came with the 8" rear differential which is a bit stronger than the 6 3/4" that was standard with the 4 cylinder Pintos. It was not a factory AC car, but does have the rare factory rollback sunroof, power steering, and power brakes, which all work well. Everything that is on the car still works, like the AM radio, cigarette lighter, lights, windshield wiper and washer, and things of that nature. It came with the 4 spoke factory mags, chrome rings and center caps and has a new set of tires on her. The car is drivable and gets a lot of thumbs up when I've had it out. The interior is not bad, the headliner is still in pretty good shape, door panels are nice, sun visors are nice, the seats are too, and overall it's presentable. Obviously it could go up a notch or two depending how far someone wants to go with the car. so there's most of the pros. As far as cons or things to improve, first of all the dash is cracked in a couple of places (typical of most Pintos) I usually use dash caps in my cars, they run about $100 and are super easy to put in and virtually undetectable from stock once they are in. The carpet under the drivers feet area is quite worn under the floor mats, eventually if it were me I'd consider putting a carpet kit in it ( about $150-200) but I wouldn't say there's a hurry just depends how picky you are. The seats are in good shape and comfortable, but the driver's seat naturally is a little more worn in than the others. The motor runs great but has an oil drip from the oil pan after it has run for a while, not anything too terrible but it can be annoying and eventually should be put on the list of things to work on. The original paint is kind of flat and there is a tiny rust bubble near the back of the sunroof on the passenger side. Of course i'm not trying to run the car down and make it sound like a piece of junk, because it is a nice car, but I like to give full disclosure on anything that people might see as important issues. The only other thing that could be a con is the exhaust system is intact and working, but a lot of the joints are clamped and not welded. The car had two clogged catalytic converters on it when i got her, and I removed them and some of the smog equipment in order to tune it for optimal performance and it really made a difference in the way it runs. It's a peppy, torquey little car and fun to drive. That's about it for descriptive stuff, I can't think of too much more right now. As far as the reserve price goes, I'm realistic about what the car is and isn't. It isn't a rust bucket or clunker Pinto and with a little time and TLC, it will be a top shelf Pinto. The factory sunroof is something you don't find very often on these cars, so it's pretty cool and unique. I have too many Pintos right now to hang on to them all and I'd love to see this car go to a good home to an owner who will love on her and give her the attention that I can't right now. I use Autoline Transport and can get you a shipping quote if you wish, they are reliable and cost effective shippers. Good luck, Happy Bidding..
