Offered is a 1997 Saturn SL2 Electric Vehicle. New 144V battery pack in 2014. Less than 1K miles on new pack. Clear IN title. I used this Saturn as a test platform for battery/EV technology experimentation. What attracted me to it was the excellent instrumentation and neat, professional looking job done in the conversion. I have run enough tests now and gathered sufficient data, and need to direct funds to other experiments. Research program is running on tight funding so everything has to be done efficiently. The E-motor is a Netgain Impulse 9" series wound D.C. Motor. Controller is a Kelly 800 Amp configurable via a laptop. Electric vacuum pump for brake booster. Electric Heat/ Defrost. DC to DC converter ( replaces an alternator ). Suspension and brakes upgraded. Battery boxes vented to the outside via an electric fan. Built in battery charger from Quick Charge which plugs into a standard 110 volt 20 Amp outlet. 5-speed transmission for testing torque/power in different RPM ranges. 144 volt nominal battery pack made up of 24 batteries at 6 volts each. Batteries are Interstate GC2-XHD-UTL, heavy duty deep cycle, 232AH each for a total 33.4 KWH battery pack, although I only discharge the pack to 50% +/- each cycle. Range is 60-70 miles, depending on how car is driven. Capable of 70+ MPH, though it likes to cruise in the 60s. Pack Voltage and Amps displayed on instrument cluster. All other instrumentation displayed on bluetooth device paired to your android phone or tablet ( includes pack Volts, Amps, State of Charge, cumulative Watts per Mile, Battery Temperature, Instantaneous Power, plus more). So, car is rust-free and in my opinion in excellent condition inside and out. Included with this sale: Extra set of factory springs, front fender, mirror, power steering rack and power steering pump. Fender and mirror were included in the package when I bought the car. I did not replace the ones on the car because the cracks noted were not very noticable and did not bother me at all. But they are still included in my sale if you want to make the car more perfect. On Nov-14-14 at 13:25:27 PST, seller added the following information: Note added: Today it was 17 degrees F. I drove the car for the first time in this cold. Couple of issues came up. One, the heater would not turn on. Also, it took a few turns of the key off to on, to get the main power to engage, and the speedometer needle jumps when its cold. After using the car, presumably warming up the electronics, both issues seemed to go away. Because of this, I am dropping the reserve from $5K to $4K. I have more than $8K in the car, considering the platform, electric components, instrumentation, and a whole brand-new set of batteries just installed this year.
