Vehicle Detail
I bought this car in Virginia, where it was sitting in a dairy field with a for sale sign. The car appears to be very original, and fairly unmolested. The P/O tried to mask some of the rust with white and silver spray paint, and fortunately did not do much more. There are signs of previous body work under the repaint, but it does not appear to have ever been in a major wreck. The nose area looks to have been hammered out a bit, but not extensively. The glass is in fair shape, and it comes with another rear window. The bumpers are beat up. I have 5 of the smoothie wide 5's, two are on the car, two are just rims(and rusty), one is the spare. The rear rims are slotted rims from a newer VW. I have a set of newer model high back seats that I will include. I also have a 6 volt Bendix Sapphire 2 radio that is included, don't know if it works or not. I was going to restore this car. I am now trying to buy a house, and decided to pass the project along to someone else. I have done some minor, mechanical repairs to the car. I cleaned the carburetor, and replaced the plugs, wires, and cap in the engine. I replaced the engine and trans-axle mounts with new German mounts. Cleaned most of the grime off of the underside and engine tin. I put new gear oil in the trans, and new German boots on the axles. There is new brake shoes on all four wheels. I replaced the front shocks with new ones, cleaned the beam and re-greased the bearings. The title is clear and in my name, currently registered as a historic vehicle in Virginia. The car runs and drives OK. Shifts well, the clutch will probably need to be replaced soon, as it chatters a little. It could be a cool, rat-rod driver, or a complete restoration. The rust on the car is not terminal, but will require some panel repair/replacement. I'm not trying to profit from this car, just trying to recover most of my investment. I will assist with shipping as necessary, but ultimately, it will be the buyers responsibility to arrange transport. I would prefer selling this to another Volkswagen enthusiast. Thanks for looking, feel free to ask any questions you may have. I can provide more detailed photos to a serious buyer.
