Vehicle Detail

68 Ford Galaxie 500, 428, Fastback, Q-code Looking for a really unique Ford car with a factory 428 big block? This is it! This one-year only body style often confuses car enthusiast at Hot Rod shows. The fact that it is a Fastback body style with a 428 makes it even better. Hell, I had a guy spend forty minutes at a show tell me he had a "Torino" just like this one back in the day. Now for the particulars: This is a real "Q" code car. It came with a 428 c.i.d. And C6 auto transmission. The block is a stronger, period correct Ford Service block. (External ribs, heavier webs, and more Nickel) The block is bored .030 over. It has a .375 stroker crank from Eagle for a total displacement of 463. Pistons are forged from Mahle. The lower block has a girdle, screw-in freeze plugs and a Melling high volume, blue printed, oil pump. The heads are the CJ C80E's. valves are over-sized. The lifters are hydraulic Crower's, the rockers are rollers and the rocker shafts are Cr02 with billet aluminum pedestals and supports. Head bolts and most critical hardware are made by ARP. The cam is from Comp-Cams. P/N: 33-000-9 (.572 int lift and .580 exh lift) Ignition system is Mallory Comp 9000 Unilite with a pro master coil. Carb is a Holly 4160C, 750 cfm, with vacuum secondaries and trans kick-down. The transmission is the factory C6 that came with the car. The only mod's were a performance shift kit, higher stall torque converter and tougher drive yoke. The rear end is the stock BIG bearing 9 inch, 31 spline. It has the factory coil springs, (not leaf), in the rear. I also have a complete re-build kit and limited slip Ford unit for it (with bearings). The car has also been converted to rear disc brakes in the rear and came with factory front discs. The master cylinder and booster are also new. Other odds and ends include a new gas tank, interior, customer side panels, carpet, Kenwood sterio, (below dash, still has factory AM radio), Kenwood sub under seat, line lock on front brakes, car has an adjustable proportioning valve from SS Brake Co., new A/C system and compressor, (R134A), Goodyear Eagle tires on chromed Helio 15x9 rims. Custom long headers from Mad Dog headers with 2 inch primaries and 3.5 inch collectors. The Super 40 mufflers really add a growl. I am the third owner of this car. I have restoration pictures, receipts and a Marti-report. With the intent of full disclosure, here is a list of things that still need some work: I built this car to drive and have fun with. I spent close to 14K on the paint and bodywork, however this was not a frame off restoration. Even so, The car shows well and does me proud at car shows. The A/C is not charged due to a small leak in the expansion valve fitting. (Needs a conical seal), The heater core has been bypassed due to a leak in the heater core that developed shortly after the car was running. New heater cores are readily available, I just haven't had the interest in pulling the right fender to do the job. (Besides, I only drive the car in good warm weather on sunny days). The huge headers run under the A-arms. As a result they occasionally drag on some big dips. This despite the fact that I installed new front HD springs meant for the convertible big block XL. The lifters barely contact the factory valley pan. (It sounds like a full roller top-end). This was my fault as I did not check the clearance when I assembled the engine. I now have 2,500 miles on the engine and all S.O.A.P. samples are fine. So on the advice from my machine shop, I left it alone. The disc brakes, in the back, tend to lightly drag more than I care for. I have tried several fixes but have yet to figure out what the hell the problem is! There is a small leak from the trans in the bell housing area. The drivers wing window regulator is now striped and does not open. Some of the wheel well moldings are not the nicest. The could be replaced or reworked to look better. Same for the drivers door handle. All in all this has been a fun and unique car to own. It has a clear Colorado title and had been appraised by two separate appraisers in excess of 28K. But here on earth I know thing are a little different, so the reserve is much much lower. The car is stored in my attached garage. I can keep it stored up to 60 days after the sale, that's not a problem. I am located just off of I-70 in Grand Junction, Colorado. (Easy for transport carriers get to and from). If you have any other questions or want more pictures feel free to use the "contact seller" button. Thanks for reading!
