Vehicle Detail
1989 Trooper II 2.6 liter 4 cylinder 4-door 236,500 miles 5-speed Standard transmission Manual locks & windows Power steering & power brakesPlacard under hood reads: Transmission M75 Body Type V4W Engine RLJ M.D. UB57VF BC/III have had this Trooper for a few years and used it as a daily driver, hand-me-down from my parents who bought it in 2008. Drives well, starts even at -25F and handles great in the snow. I am selling it because I have two other 4WD vehicles and a new car for daily driving that gets much better MPG. This May I had $1700.00 worth of work done to include the following:At 234,388 miles in May 2014 - New Timing Belt - New Alternator & PS Belts - New Valve Cover Gaskets - New Plugs, Wires, Dist Cap & rotor - New fuel filter - New DS front CV Joint - New front seal housing & seal (did not fix leak completely) - I have the Invoices and Receipts for this workAt 217,862 miles 04-2012 New alternator; At 213,476 miles 08-2011 New tires; At 207,415 miles 07-2009 New head gasket & manifold gasketThe pictures were all taken without detailing the Trooper. It has been 11 months since I detailed it, but I wanted people to see how it's been treated day to day, which is kindly.I get 17-20 MPG. It shifts very smoothly and handles more like a car than a boxy SUV, excellent 360 degree visibility. EVERYTHING WORKS except the defrost, but I just point the dash vents up and that does the trick, I think the switch just needs adjusted. All dash gauges, lights, radio, locks, wipers, windows, e-brake, back window wiper/heater, A/C, heat... everything works. Original Owners Manual is in glove box, original jack and lug nut wrench are under driver's seat as they come new from factory. It comes with used, but functional spare belts, new oil filters, several other used spare parts. Full size spare on back door under tire cover. Front plastic and original fabric floor mats, back rubber mats. Tires are nice handling and quiet M&S with about 40% life left. All glass is REALLY clear, no pits, scratches or cracks. All rubber is also very nice. Trooper must have been garaged at least the first 18+ years of life. It has been painted apple red from original silver (in the pics it looks orange red, but it is apple red). It was done at Maaco on 5-29-2002 for $800, have receipt. The paint job is flaking off and cracked in a few spots (not due to rust) and reveals silver paint underneath, but it is not widespread or noticeable until you get within 10 feet. I have taken pics of the bad spots. I hit a deer last winter that pushed in the front bumper on the passenger side, put a small dent on the edge of the hood, and pushed in the front passenger fender, please see the pics. It also broke out the grill and damaged the headlight mount. I replaced the grill with an aftermarket grill that would fit better if the fender wasn't tweaked. The Trooper was also in a quarter to golf ball size hail storm last Spring and there is significant denting on the hood and some on roof. There is also a dent on the roof right in the back that was there before the Trooper was repainted, so no rusting. Other than the hail damaged hood and roof, and deer damaged fender and bumper, the body and frame are completely straight. There is no rust other than the surface rust seen in pics of the deer damage. The interior is in good condition, the back cargo area has suffered the most wear and tear, but all the seats, headliner, interior door panels are in good shape. The glove box has a piece of duck tape over the plastic hinge, but the hinge is not broken (I did not put the tape there). There are duck tape marks on the heater blow out unit on the front floorboard, but there is nothing wrong, that was just done to direct heat away from passenger. Heater is awesome. The driver side headlight works fine, but has a hole in the glass and will need replaced eventually. There is a broken bolt on the underside of the PS pump that can't be fixed without removing the engine block, but I had an additional support bracket for the PS pump fabricated and installed, belt is ever so slightly out of alignment now, but works just fine. The engine does not burn oil. Also has an engine block heater. This is a 25 year old SUV that does have some rattles and squeaks, but nothing indicative of major repairs. We do not have emissions testing in Wyoming, so I do not know if it would pass. It does not smoke, and I have no reason to believe it wouldn't pass emissions. The bad: There is a very serious oil leak between the oil filter mount and the engine block. It leaks non-stop while running and slowly while parked. It can use up to 1 quart of oil in 30-40 miles of driving. It also has a weird high pitched squeak that comes from the back wheels sporadically when you backup and some times when making tight corners. The sound will come for a few weeks and then go away. I have had two mechanics look at this and the wheels, rotors and brakes are fine. There is a very small fuel leak that I think is coming from the injector seals on the top of the engine. These were replaced two years ago due to the same issue, but it may have returned. I think there is a PS hose leaking at a coupling, but it must be slow because it's not losing fluid. MORE PICTURES: 24 pictures is simply not enough. I have 46 large pictures of close-ups on the interior, the exterior deer & hail damage, and the engine. Please see: http://s1376.photobucket.com/user/1989trooper/library/ I can also send additional pictures upon request.Trooper is sold AS-IS with no warranties. I would trust it to drive cross country, but you have to be willing to add a lot of oil as you go due to the leak mentioned above. I cannot deliver it or ship it, but will store it outside for up to 21 days from end of auction. Paypal accepts up to a $2,000 deposit due within 24 hours of auction end, if sale price is less than $2,000 I expect full payment through Paypal within 24 hours. If sale price is more than $2,000, the remaining balance is expected within 72 hours of auction end by cashier's check or cash, if you can't get here by then, FedEx it.
