SOMETHING TO CONSIDERIf you are working your way up to a GS1200, this is a great bike to own. If you are ready for a 1200, go for it!! But if not, consider the Dakar. While the 1200 is a near-perfect motorcycle, the Dakar brings some important things to the table. It is much lighter, less expensive, and gets much better gas mileage. In some ways, the engine of this motorcycle is ahead of 1200s of the same year. It is fully water-cooled and the engine and gearbox are one unit–taking the same oil. The 1200 didn't have these features until 2013. There is no trail or adventure scenario that the 1200 can do that this motorcycle can't do. It has plenty of suspension travel and plenty of torque. I'm a big 1200 fan and am heading in that direction. So, don't misunderstand me. But the Dakar really is a valuable machine. VERSATILITY It is outstanding as a trail bike, the perfect commuter, great in the city, and can hold luggage enough for long trips. I get my groceries on this bike. VALUE *Gas savings paid for the motorcycle. *Solid 61 MPG--much greater than the GS 1200 or the 800 *The Dakar is more powerful and has more ground clearance than its little brother the f650.*The Dakar has a more powerful electrical system than the f650 enabling it to pull more accessories. *I changed the gearing on my Dakar so that it is extremely smooth at 70mph. (I still have the original sprockets.)*I added a center stand which dramatically eases simple tasks like washing the bike and oiling the chain * Chain and rear tire only two months old.*This Dakar has an aftermarket seat that is much more comfortable than the stock seat. BMW DISTINCTIONIn addition to the unique things the Dakar offers, it also offers the standard BMW stuff: HEATED GRIPS, BREMBO BRAKES, POWER OUTLET, ABS, PASSING-LIGHT FLICKER. The engine is bullet-proof, water-cooled, single-cylinder 650 with good torque for trail riding. The mileage is 17,200 and increasing because I ride it to work every day, year-round. There is some minor fading of the decal on the left fairing due to the previous owner's using a harsh cleaner. This is a unique ride. I have never seen another one on the road. Stop by and have a look!
