1985 Capri ASC McLaren Convertible If you know anything about these cars, you already know how rare they are and how few where built. Still any car associated the name McLaren name is know for performance and style. In 1985, only 257 where made as 2 seater roadster convertibles Not sure how many where this color combination w/ auto trans but after almost 30 yrs, the numbers Im sure are low and few left on the road. There are a few websites dedicated to these cars and the best thing is, and not just anyone can roll up to a car show in the same car. Youll probably be lucky to see another one in your own state. this 1985 Model is #085 (how cool is that, #85 for an 85) 1 of the most sought after models because of their classic 4 Eyed look and Fords first yr to use the roller 5.0 motors !! which are easily modded and tunable V8 for daily driving or the track with a simple 4v carb. Stock these cars rocked the streets back in the day..even by todays standards they are a blast to drive This motor has less then 10k miles on the rebuild, including a better more reliable Holley carb, Dart heads, and much more. Great color combo : This Red w/ Tan leather interior is probably the most recognized color combos of all the ASC cars. Its daring as hell and makes a statement to other cars around you that you arent just another 5.0This car only has 96k original milkes on it ! Still rough in a few areas inside and out, but a true car person can see thru it all and knows that it wouldnt take alot to bring it back to its original glory. Needs some cosmetic items and mild resto sunvisors are missing, turn signal stalk broken. This car has been in or Az its whole life so rust isnt and has never be an issue during its lifetime since 1985. Its runs better then stock 220hp 5.0 with the built motor. Aprox HP now is rated about 350 with a built AOD along with it to handle the extra HP and improved shift points.Step on the gas and car car really starts pulling hard once it hits 2300 rpms and just keeps pulling. I did notice when it was cold it has a mild stumble under hard acceleration, but possibly just needs a adjustment on the acc pump on the Holley carb. Ill mess with it a little this week and see if I can rid it. Im going to double check the timing too again. Its a fun driving car that gets alot of looks and compliments when you are driving around or go to a car event, but its really 20 footer from the outside. DRIVETRAIN: The motor was gone thru and turned into a 347 about 5 yrs ago and then only driven about 10k miles before the last owner passed away in which then it sat for a while. Some mods to the motor include a nicer Holley 600 carb, MSD 6a box, DART heads (not sure which version exactly) Header, performance mufflers, Silicone radiator hoses, plug wires and more. AC still all connected, but about a month ago it quit blowing as cold so it will need to be recharged. Built AOD trans too, super crisp shifts, small stall convertor its a blast to drive. Catches a 2nd gear scratch without even trying. ..the rearend I believe is stock but not 100% sure. INTERIOR: isnt bad for its age. Az has had some effect of course on some of the almost 30 yr old car, but the car was garaged most of the time and although its not perfect, its acceptable for a daily driver or cruiser. The factory FULL POWER leather Recaros are in nice shape and feel great. For an older Fox body car its needs very some interior cosmetics and some trim should be replaced too. Some parts it needs are ASC specific too which only came on these cars.Top mechanism Im working on why it wont release. Not all sure what all is working inside the cockpit for the top etc, but could just be a fuse issue or bad switch. SUSPENSION: I believe these cars where Lowered from the factory on what could be Motorsport C springs from their time. This car now has a nice set of Bilstein Struts all around too. (the last original owner wanted the best) Has all 4 of the factory 15" ASC Mesh rims, which are cleaning up well and would be easy to restore. I believe back in the day they where made by MSW. Personally I would yank off the current tires and put something nicer on the car and the correct size (225-60-15) BODY: When they built these cars they put Capri fenders on Mustang bodies. The front just bolted on which was easy but the rear factory wide body style fenders had to be blended in from the factory. The original color was Muscat Red and the was repainted the factory color a few yrs ago, but unfortunately the paint wasnt done as well as rest of the cars rebuild. The paint isnt all that bad to be honest, but its more the prep work under the paint wasnt done all that well. I can see scratches under the paint in a few areas. Also there is overspray in areas I dont like to see. There are some areas too the paint has scratches and or some damage thats hard to see in the pics. Front bumper/ dr side door handle/and a few other areas. The body to my knowledge, never wrecked or anything and of course, this thing has NO RUST (other then some surface in a few places) EMAIL WITH ANY QUESTIONS PLEASETHE PICS BELOW SPEAK VOLUMES but Im sure I may of overlooked some stuff. We have no documents to confirm any internal mods done to the motor etc, but we are trying to get them from the previous owner. Seeing as the person passed away, the info we got came from a close family member who was selling the car. His story sounded sincere and judging by the way the car drives and sounds (and even been around Mustangs since the Fox bodys where new) this car feels and sounds far from a stock 5 litre. On Sep-27-14 at 16:01:26 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE ON THE SUSPENSION: I was under the car today steam cleaning it and taking care of someminor work it needed (new dr side low beam headlight too)and while one of the wheels was off I was checking the struts. The adsays Bilstein, and thats what the previous owner told me, BUT after closelylooking at them, although they do look recent and new, they are Black inthe front and Silver I think in the rear, making me think they are KYB and Not Bilsteins. I always remember Bilstein being blue and yellow.THIS UPDATE is 3 DAYS before the auction does end.
