I have owned this 1983 BMW R100 for several years now and am considering moving on to a different bike, as I do every few years. The bike is in great running shape with 53k miles and I, a professional mechanic, have taken care of any issues that I have found in order to make the bike viable for long distance interstate trips with my wife on the back. The bike has a nice patina with some touchups on the frame paint but pretty much perfect tank paint and a new Corbin saddle. The bike is powerful, handles and stops well and has never let me down. It is also extremely comfortable. The brand new Corbin saddle is the best seat that I have ever had on a bike. The R100 is a 1000cc beast with a low center of gravity and a perfect seat height. It is extremely powerful and preforms exceptionally, with tons of torque. It is so light that I routinely let people try it out as their first ride. Still, I am 6’2” and it is totally comfortable. The bike comes with the two stock side-cases and…A Vetter windjammer III fairing, and a sissy bar for those who want to pretend that they are a Germanic version of Prince in purple rain. The bike is in great running condition with an oil and filter change, cylinder head re-torque and valve adjustment and carb balancing all done in the last few weeks.When I purchased the bike two years ago I replaced the front brake master cylinder with a new BMW one, rebuilt the front calipers and re-installed the near new BMW brake pads that were on it when I got it. Last month I installed new EBC HH front brake pads. Braking is dramatically better, maybe even too good. Little finger on the lever at stop lights good.I rebuilt the carbs with complete BMW carb kits. I installed a new Corbin saddle and new Michelin Pilot activ tires. After a year of frequent riding the bike developed a wandering idle and I diagnosed this with the help of the Airheads list online to be a worn timing chain. I opened the front of the engine and found that the chain, tensioner and sprockets had almost no wear. I planned on keeping the bike forever and I had the parts, and I had the bike open, so I decided to replace everything anyway. So, for no real reason, this bike has a new Timing chain, top and bottom sprocket and tensioner.It turned out that the wandering idle was due to a poorly executed cylinder head valve seat replacement. Both cylinder heads were sent out for restoration to Randy Long; Renowned as the best in the business. New valve seats all around, valve guides, valves and springs. Should last another 35 years easy.This summer I rebuilt the front fork with all new seals and premium fork oil.I just got back from a nice 500 mile trip up to Rhode Island. Slicing and dicing traffic the whole way at 80mph. I routinely ride to work from the NYC suburbs out to western NJ. You’ll love the bike. A vintage airhead is the way to go.I have spent a lot on this bike to make it ultra-reliable, and I planned on keeping it forever. I have fallen in love with a vintage Moto Guzzi and this bike has to go if I want to move on another one.I am happy to help with shipping. My work has a loading dock where it would be easy to load the bike onto a tall truck. I will strap to a pallet and wrap it to protect it for a $100 fee. I have used Wolverine trucking for motorcycle delivery in the past and have found them to be very reliable and inexpensive, a bike shipped from NJ to San Diego was $360. I will require a $500 deposit within 24 hours of end of sale.Please look at all pictures closely. This is a 31 year old bike. There are chips, scratches and wear. We who love old bikes and cars call it “patina.” Patina is character. Character is priceless.
