This car has about 110,000 miles on it and it runs well. The air conditioner blows cold. The seats have been reupholstered with MB Tex. The Becker radio is original and it works. The 'eyebrow' rust on the front fenders has been properly and expertly repaired; no Bondo. I bought the car to use as a daily driver. It needs work on the clock, odometer, left front window regulator, and door locks.The 280SEL 4.5 is equipped with fully independent suspension, four-wheel power disc brakes and an overhead-cam V-B engine. And, instead of carburetors, it has still another performance feature you can't find on any domestic sedan-electronic fuel injection. An incredibly precise electronic computer measures manifold vacuum, engine speed and load, water and intake air temperatures. And then injects an exact amount of fuel for each cylinder. As a result, the engine is almost immune to changes in outside air temperature or altitude. ln tight corners, gravity can't "starve ' it of fuel-because fuel injection is unaffected by even the most extreme cornering situations. And you get significantly more power with no sacrifice in economy. To the man who demands something more than an automated living room, such performance innovations make driving something to do. Not something that must be done. This is the work done on it since May, 2011: Replaced drag link, L & R tie rod assemblies, steering shock. Adjusted wheel bearings. Replaced gearshift indicator. Corrected fuel leak at the pump. Repaired and replaced shift linkage on the transmission. Replaced shift bushings. Corrected leak in power steering. R&R Steering box, reseal. Replaced steering coupler. Replaced shift bushing. Replace blower motor. Recharged AC. Rust repair on front fenders. I have receipts documenting the $11,000 spent on the car since 2011.
