Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1999 Lincoln towncar. This car has been my daily work commuter for the last five years. It runs good, stops good, and drives like it should. The heat is hot and the air conditioning is cold. It has always been sheltered and taken care of, and it is in good condition inside and out. It includes the power sunroof and steering wheel audio controls, and also an integrated telephone if you want to look like Zack Morris off "Saved by the Bell." Throughout the years, I have taken care of any problems that have come up, so the new owner will not have to deal with the common issues. For example, the rear suspension has been converted to maintainence free coil springs so no air ride gremlins. It rides great, the wife says it's like riding on a marshmallow! Anyway, I have also replaced the intake manifold with the upgraded one that will not crack around the thermostat. I have also replaced the coil packs and plugs, and the heater core. These are all typical areas of problems that can be costly. This car has the 4.6 motor and I always change the oil regularly. The engine does make a ticking or tapping sound when you crank it up cold, but this goes away after about 30 seconds. It has done this for over a year, and I have heard this is also typical. My mechanic says it is nothing to worry about and that I might consider experimenting with different oil weights or synthetics if it bothers me. This car has been very dependable, and the only reason I am selling is that my dad gave me a "family discount" on his 2006 lincoln that he was going to trade. I had planned to drive this one till the wheels fell off. The only things I have not bothered to fix were a few minor things that didn't interfere with my daily use of the vehicle. One of those things is a rear door lock actuator, available for about 30 bucks here on ebay. It still locks manually, just not with the electric switch. Another thing is the driver's seat does not like to go forward and back. You can hear the motor operating with the switch, so not sure what's wrong there. This has not been a problem for me or my wife as the back and height adjustments still work fine. So unless you are really tall or really short, this may not matter to you either. The last thing I know is wrong is that the interior lights did not turn off automatically a few nights, and I woke to a dead battery. I took the fuse out and have never had another issue with it. I drive in the day time so doesn't bother me. My mechanic said a door switch may be stuck or that it could be the LCM (light control module) as these were prone to failure. It is a plug and play part that can also be found here on ebay for 99 bucks or less. Everything else works as it should and the high bidder should be able to drive it wherever he or she wants with confidence. I average about 22 mpg. on my 100 mile daily highway commute. The tires are matching with good tread, and all of the brakes are fairly new along with the front rotors. Rear rotors will need replacing next time around. Paint has average wear and tear but looks nice if you keep it clean. No rust or peeling or body work. The most noticable scratch is on the trunk lid, looks like someone sat a suitcase on it. It was touched up before I bought it and does not really show unless you get up on the car. I took a close up pic of the trunk lid but I couldn't get it to really show. Okay, I think that's everything. I try to give full disclosure so that we can all be satisfied with the transaction. If you have questions, let me know, and I'll answer what I can. The towncar is tried and true platform shared by Crown Victorias and Mercury Grand Marquis. They get outstanding safety reviews and have been trusted for commerical uses for years. Cars like this can be found with well over 300K miles here on ebay. So bid with confidence. This would be a solid sedan that's good for your family, good for a grocery getter, or good for your 24inch wheels if that's your thing! I am selling this car with no reserve, so bid to win! Thanks for looking. Travis
