When Mitsubishi launched the Evolution series of its Lancer model, they used the direct descendant of its World Rally Champion platform. It’s 2-liter turbocharged motor puts out nearly 300hp and is mated to an active center differential with tarmac, grass, and snow settings. Limited slip differentials are installed at the front and rear. With the newly added “RS” edition, the Evo shed some more weight (234 lbs) by eliminating some of the non-performance items. As a result, this model quickly became the weapon of choice among serious track enthusiasts.
This owner purchased the Evo new in February of 2007 from Costa Mesa Mitsubishi here in Southern California. This owner is a collector of Japanese factory racecars both new and old. He always felt that the short-lived RS would be the model to hang on to for future collectability. Unfortunately, he finds that his family obligations don’t allow him to fully enjoy using this car as much as he would like to.
Upon taking delivery, the owner decided to employ one of the best local tuner’s to help improve the performance. He chose Road Race Engineering in Santa Fe Springs, CA because they were a distributor of RAYS Engineering performance equipment, which was considered the best. Road Race performed all of the car’s maintenance as well. Some of the key improvements included:

In total, well over $15,000 was invested in making this a competent track toy that could be driven daily to work and still pass California’s strict smog laws. The car was only used a few times at the track for a driving school to become more familiar with how to drive the car…that’s it. It was never raced.
The exterior of the car looks great. There are minimal signs of wear…about average considering the age and miles. There are a few small dings here and there (see pics) and that’s it. The tires and brakes are fresh. The interior looks equally as nice with no major wear areas. The owners are non-smokers and there are no strange odors. Everything appears to work properly except the A/C needs to be recharged due to not being used much.
California registration paid through February 2015.
