Super clean 1985 Honda CR500R that i purchased to add to my collection . I have several CR500's and am in the process of trying to collect an example of each significant version so to speak. While looking for a good 85' platform to make a nice example of , i found this particular bike. The previous owner's uncle had purchased it new in 1985. The engine had a complete rebuild from top to bottom 10hrs of use before it was parked several years ago and not ridden since till i purchased it(info i received from owner that i purchased bike from and dont doubt him as compression was good and bike runs strong) . Upon checking compression, it pumped 155lbs with 4-5 jabs at the kicker.(165 is top of spec for these bikes). After bringing it home, the chassis was torn down completely installing new swing arm, shock linkage, steering neck and wheel bearings.Frame was touched up while torn down. The forks were in good condition, so seals were left alone. the shock was replaced with a freshened up 85' CR500 shock i had in stock. The engine ran strong(i also freshened up carb as it had sat for some time with old premix in it) but the water pump seal boss had some corrosion. i pulled and thoroughly cleaned clutch cover(as cover was removed , it was a perfect opportunity to check clutch basket and hub....both were in excellent condition) and used a repair product called devcon to rebuild seal boss area. All seals, and pump shaft/gear were replaced to make water pump work as it should and keep coolant in motor and out of transmission.The front brake system was funky from age and original owner not keeping fluid flushed as he shouldve, so whole front brake system was replaced with one from an 01' CR250R, and it works excellent. Rear shoes have plenty of material left. Tank, shrouds and side number plates are original with new decals on shrouds. Front and rear fenders were replaced with brand new OEM Honda fenders. Original pipe was dented up a little but no too bad, but, i replaced it with a brand new FMF Gnarly pipe. Answer spark arrestor silencer was polished slightly. Tires and sprockets in decent condition. O-ring chain will need replaced soon. Since buying this clean example, i stumbled across an original 20 hr 85' CR500R thats a show piece. With my collection needing an 84' CR500R and an 83' CR480, room has to be made, so this fine example must go to make room and generate capital for the last 2 pieces of my collection. Someone else should enjoy this machine, or just sit and look at it as i do most of mine(the older ones barely get ridden) .This one isnt perfect ,but, its a very nice, clean example of the strongest HONDA CR500R ever made and 1st water cooled CR500R in HONDA's lineup. I will drain all fluids if needed for transportation.This motorcycle has no title even though it was a required field during listing process and bill of sale was not an option, but a clean bill of sale will be provided if needed(off road vehicles did not come with titles until mid 1999) Mileage was listed as 1000 but, this bike has no speedometer or odometer, so exact mileage is unknown. this info was another required field during listing process.
