Vehicle Detail

I have had this car since my dad passed away in 2012. I just don't have the resources to store and take care of the car in the way it needs. It has been stored outside under a tarp for 1 1/2 years and has, so far, started easily every time. Condition: 43430 original miles. Clean title. The car was re-painted five or six years ago, I believe, but does have two significant exterior scratches/chips (see photos) and the paint has been worn down to bare metal in a few spots from the action of the tarp rubbing against contact points. The exhaust pipes have what appears to be some surface corrosion. The photo of the cracked paint is a little hard to see but it is an approximately 3 inch area. I don't know if the damage was caused from force or if there is an issue with paint adhesion. The interior is in good shape but was not professionally done. The tires and top appear to be in great shape. I have started the car regularly every month or two and driven up and down our 800' driveway. Gas has been run through the motor regularly so it shouldn't have any lacquer in the lines; however, all of the other fluids--coolant, oil, brake fluid, transmission fluid, etc.--have not been changed in approximately two to three years and all the systems need to be flushed. As near as I can tell, all of the seals seem to be holding but I can't guarantee anything due to lack of regular driving. Oil pressure has been steady and good. When the motor comes up to temp, there is light smoke from the exhaust manifold area--not a tremendous amount but definitely needs to be addressed. I'm only slightly mechanically inclined so I can't vouch for anything with the motor. I make no guarantees with this vehicle. It is sold as is and I would highly recommend having the car flat towed to your destination. I think that with some TLC this would be a great run-around car or could, with relative ease, be beautifully restored. Buyer is responsible for shipping/pick up. ***********************edit, June 20th, 2014************************************** I've had several questions about rust and it's been bugging me that I couldn't give a better answer. Anyway, I obtained a decent jack and looked under the car and also did some research on what to really look for--I hopefully have a better answer now. The good:I didn't see any holes in the floor pan from underneath and I tapped around as best I could with my flashlight to check for soft spots and didn't find any. I felt along the underside all around the perimeter of the vehicle and there were no soft spots that I could find there either. The chassis had no obvious damage and I felt around as best I could with the flashlight to try and find holes and soft spots but didn't find any. The trailing arms appeared to be in decent shape but I couldn't get fully underneath the car to check. I couldn't check all the joins but overall there was nothing that was obvious to me. I checked inside the door jambs and along the base of the doors and couldn't find anything. The bad:Around portions of the trunk seal there are some small spots where the paint is lifting. I can't tell if it is from rust or if the paint job here was just defective. There is some significant rust at the left rear of the trunk seal in the corner that is going to be a problem. The damage is maybe two inches in area or so but you could put a screwdriver through it with little effort. There are a few small bubbles in the paint around the driver side tail-light--not the one above the bumper but on the side. The undercoat was lifting in the left rear wheel-well and I pulled it off to find some significant rust damage. It's basically along the fender seam and there is a sizable hole. There wasn't anything this obvious in the other fenders but I didn't want to pull off the undercoat to check. There are some small paint bubbles around the front headlight. I didn't see anything else that was obvious but again, I'm certainly not an expert on what to check for. I know that if I were a buyer, these things would make me uncomfortable so I think it's only fair that I lower the price given the above considerations. Overall, I think the car is in pretty good shape considering that it has been stored outside for over a year but I know now that it will take more work to bring it back to where it needs to be. Thanks to those who asked the questions. Let me know if you have more.
