Vehicle Detail

MZ Motorrad- und Zweiradwerk was a German motorcycle manufacturer located in Zschopau, Saxony. The acronym MZ stands for Motorradwerk Zschopau (German for Zschopau motorcycle factory). The Zschopau works was one of the oldest motorcycle factories in the world, producing motorcycles since 1922. The best known models were the two-stroke 125/150 and 250 series, with the variants ES, ETS, TS and ETZ. Timeline1906 Jørgen Skafte Rasmussen (Denmark) buys an empty cloth factory in Zschopau1917 Rasmussen invents the steam-powered car (Dampf-Kraft-Wagen), also known by its trademark DKW1923 Company is renamed DKW1927 Company starts racing activities1928 DKW takes over the Audi factory at Zwickau1929 60,000 motorcycles leave the Zschopau factory, and DKW is the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world1931 Introduction of DKW small cars1932 The Auto Union is formed from Audi, Horch, Wanderer and DKW.1948 After WW2 now owned by the East German state, company is renamed Industrieverband Fahrzeugbau (IFA), a Communist-controlled umbrella foundation, the DKW name disappeared and motorcycles were renamed to MZ.1962 Manufacture of the ES 125/ES 150 begins. This was the first motorcycle with an asymmetric low beam headlight pattern. Before the "Wall' came down, DDR/East Germany was a state within the European 'Eastern Bloc' during the cold war period. From 1949 to 1990 it administered the region of Germany which was occupied by Soviet forces at the end of the Second World War. Eastern bloc motorcycle-design was really different to everything that was considered to me normal in the ‚western world’, though is ingenious in many respects. This particular machine is probably the most weird looking bike on eBay right now and for sure it will, because of its really 'different looks’, also draw for the rest of its life a lot of attention wherever it will appear! The engine starts at first kick and is running (humming!) as sweet as can be!! Out on the street the bike is handling Really well where everything works like should. The odometer reads 01114 km / 692 mile, but have no history with the bike other than that it has been with the same person since the year 1990 (which person bought the bike in the former DDR right after the wall came down). The paint and chrome are old and not in best condition, traces of use and age are visible. I will provide the buyer an official bill of sale from my company here in Belgium, an official European Certificate of Origin which states the make, displacement, VIN & all other relevant specifications, plus I’ll make sure that all the correct export-paperwork will be in place before the bike leaves from here, which documents will make the process of importing it into the US an easy ride. -On this listing I'm offering a special (fully sealed) m'cycle crate, careful packing and physical shipping from here in Belgium to a CFS of the shipping-company as close as possible to you at my expense. Please note; In case the bike needs to be shipped to another destination than the US, please ask whether I can offer you such a deal as well before placing a bid (mostly this is not a problem, but better make sure). Furthermore, when you want to receive some better photo's of the bike/shipping, or want to recieve more information about this item, just let me know. -Additional information to this listing; The bike has after 49 years traces of use and age (patina). I only offer shipping by sea, where of course we can advise you on forehand about the process of importing the machine into your country. Like can be read in the link, this antique bike is because of its age and displacement exempt from US import-duty and EPA regulations; https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/278/~/importing-classic-or-antique-vehicles-%2F-cars-for-personal-use The crate will safely sail in a sealed container and the shipment is fully insured for eventual damage/loss. I accept payments through PayPal. The free shipping offer is basically only for US (North America) mainland destinations, but most probably something can be worked out in this regard when you live somewhere else. When you live in another country and want to find out whether this offer would also be possible for you, please ask before bidding.
