Vehicle Detail
You are looking at a nice driver quality car with one of the best color combinations I have ever seen on a ’64 Galaxie. The car was sold to the original owner by the Ford dealership in Whitefish, MT on May 19, 1964. The second owner purchased the car on June 6, 2008 after it had sat in storage for 15 years. I am the third owner and purchased the car in the summer of 2010. Thank goodness it was in Montana for 46 years and saw sand instead of salt! The odometer shows 14,300 which is at least 114,300 miles but I have no documentation to verify. As you can see I have only been able to do a partial interior restoration and some mechanical items. Mechanical: The car starts, stops, and drives as it should. A correct remanufactured carburetor was installed. All coolant hoses and heater core replaced. A remanufactured master cylinder was installed and the brakes inspected and repaired as needed. A new dual exhaust system was installed with glass pack mufflers. There is an exhaust manifold leak (I believe) on the driver side. A new battery was recently installed. Engine has been tuned up with new spark plug wires, distributor cap, and coil. The car is running on Cragar S/S rims and radial tires. Both rims and tires have seen less than 500 miles. The car starts every time and shifts as it should. Floats down the road and is a pleasure to drive. Interior: The interior is 80% restored. The seats all have new upholstery and emblems. The door panels have been reconditioned and look great. The console is fantastic. The rear shelf has been covered in a black felt type fabric. New sail panel interior lamp bezels and lenses. The very clean floor pan was covered in Dynamat before the carpet was installed. So were the doors and rear quarters. New seat belts, kick panels, and sill plates. Dash pad is nice with no cracks. New speakers installed in the dash and rear seat center location. NOS Craig FM/8-track first time install in this car. Headliner looks nice and has no rips but some minor discoloration. Dash trim needs restoration and the glove box door needs paint. Clock does not work. Fuel gauge works. Temp gauge and oil idiot light disconnected in favor of Sunpro gauges. At this point I have only finished restoring the passenger seat lower trim and seat back. The driver side parts all available and just have three more stainless trim pieces that require polishing before the seat can be completed. Exterior: I think the value in this car is the exterior color. It is Samoan Coral which was a special paint option on Galaxies (actually a T-Bird color). The missing characters under “COLOR” on the door trim tag confirm this. I believe most of the paint is original to the car. The body has no rust through that I have found but there isn’t one panel that does not need some dent/ding repair. The pictures show most of these areas. Quarters are solid with no patch panels. The passenger door is not original to the car and you can see rocker damage below the door. Most of the trim needs restoration or replacement. Front bumper is decent. Rear bumper need re-chrome as bottom is missing chrome plating on corners. Glass is good but windshield has a stone chip. Seals are all okay but would replace if restoring the body. With all this stated, I get compliments on this car most every time I drive it! If I were to keep the car I would finish the seat trim and just drive it for a while. I think there is payback in a frame-off or frame-on restoration solely based on the color combination. Right now I just don’t have the time or space to store it. The car is being sold as is where is. In my experience pictures always make a car look better than it is in person. I encourage anyone making an offer or purchasing the car to inspect it in person first. I have attempted to provide an accurate description but I cannot describe every aspect of this car as you may see it. Thanks for looking! Brent
