Vehicle Detail
This is a great hard to find hunk of O.G. awesomeness. I really really love it and appreciate it and all of it's history I have been able to amass. I feel bad but I need to let it go to someone who will appreciate it even more. I have some financial obligations that are more important than owning this. So here it is, offered to you! I bought this from the original owner. No Title. It is off the records. So if you buy it and register it, you will be the second registered owner, very cool. Still wears it's original black plates, those numbers are available too so you can do the Year Of Manufacture program to keep them on the car when you register it. Listen very carefully.... What you need is a bill of sale from me, and a Vin Verification which I already did and have the papers to give you. You take those down to the dmv and get your title in your name. It is not rocket science to work with no title. It is if there is a record of it on the computer and no title. But this is not the case. It is clean, off any record. Outside of California, not sure how it works with no title to bring into your state. Call your DMV and find out. Worst case I an get a title on this car, but it will cost me $500. If you want to reimburse me, great I will do it. This is a beautiful car. I love it, and tried desperately to keep it. I put some work into it but can't afford to keep it right now. Family obligations come first. So, I will pass it off to someone who appreciates it for what it is, an unmolested very original very documented find. I would call it a barn find, but it was under a cover instead. Last registered in 1989. Bought new March 29, 1969 at Dodge dealer in Canoga Park, CA. It spent it's entire life in the L.A. area. I have the original Owner's Manual that has the original Certicard still in it! Also have dealer delivery acknowledgement, registration back to '69, Customer Care Warranty booklet, Broadcast Sheet, and tons of old receipts. The registration, Certicard, and Delivery Acknowledgement all confirm 3-29-69 delivery / date first sold. Weird but true. Sold as last years model perhaps. Still wears 1970 UCLA gate passes on both bumpers! It has had one repaint the same color. Not the best repaint, and it is also old (possibly from pre 72 fender bender) and flaking in door jambs and below rockers. The car had a fender bender prior to 1972 according to the original owner's wife. The driver rear quarter was replaced. At that time or since, it has had a few small dents in that quarter pulled out with a puller. If you look up quarter well from trunk area you can see some bondo dripping in through puller holes. Quarter was cut along vinyl top trim line and overlapped, riveted there and down at rocker. See pics. Welded and attached well at rear near trunk. Behind driver door not sure what they did exactly to weld in quarter, it is not factory, all bodywork there is sanded flush, instead of having metal of quarter wrap around into jamb. Some rust at that repair, see pics. Cracks, chips, dings, throughout paint. I took tons of photos, over 250, available on my photobucket of all the defects and issues. Link is below description. I won't write a book about each here. Pictures tell more than I can say. Worst rust is behind passenger wheel well. Some paint bubbling here and there, see pics. Paint lifting on hood in some spots. I was in the trunk a few times. It is fairly solid, though has rust, and some small small holes. Carried my 200 pounds in it while I was up in there cleaning. Fender tag body number matches the radiator core support stamp as well as body number stamped on trunk area. Fender tag decoded: Center seat (buddy seat) Bucket seats Hood turn signals Remote driver mirror 26" radiator Power brakes Rear seat speaker 8 track player. (Note: Radio and 8 track are missing...) Air Conditioning. (all there, no workey...) Tinted front window only. (not sure if this is og windshield.) Black vinyl top Drip rail mouldings Body belt mouldings Wheel lip mouldings 2.76 gear ratio, non suregrip Vinyl buckets Black interior Yellow exterior 383 2bbl. 3 speed auto trans. Built 1-31-68 134615 shipping number / body number, same as body number by trunk, and radiator core support. Motor according to original owner is original. That checks out with the numbers on it. Block has a 2-18-67 casting date which is correct to be done and then built in '68. Stampings near distributor are D383 1 31. The "D" signifies 1968, and 1 31 matches fender tag build date, Jan. 31. No vin stamped on block behind oil sensor. Some say only 383 4bbls and 440s got that stamp, some say it was just done sometimes but not other times, who knows. Its not on this one. You can look more yourself if you'd like. Motor has between 115 and 135 compression all around. Distributor vacuum advance is bad. Carb port for now is plugged. Runs. Not great, but runs drives and stops. This thing sat for so long attention will be needed everywhere. This is not a driver. You won't buy this and drive it home. I spent time getting it running after it's hibernation but that is as far as I got. It has a new gas tank, fuel lines, fuel pump, rotor cap condensor plug wires and plugs, rebuilt carb, battery and new oil. Motor has very slight tapping, maybe some lifters arent pumping up all the way, dirty, some condensation rust, havent gone into the valve covers to look. I have a video link below you can hear it run. Cold start up it has 40 or so psi oil pressure. A little less after warm. 30 ish at idle. I temporarily hooked up a gauge where sending unit is normally on block. Power steering only just started working, and works only after rpms rise a little. Leaks too. Trans seems to shift ok so far. I have driven this around the shop a few times and down the street and back. Speedo needle is bouncing, cable needs lubed up. I did not take it more than about 35 because of that. Brakes will need some attention. Rear drums are down to rivets and scored by previous owner. Again, I have not done any real road driving. I can't therefore say much beyond what I did about drivetrain's condition. I run a small restoration / fab shop. I do almost all facets, body to interior, mechanical, wiring, etc. My shop rate is $55 per hour. You get my complete attention, it's very personal, and I don't carry more than two cars at a time, so you don't get lost, put on back burner, waiting years for your car to get done. I am honest to a fault some would say. Meaning I am honest even if it means losing money or business. Integrity first. All that said, you could purchase this and have me do whatever your little heart desires. Full nut and bolt resto's top to bottom, a 10 on the scale costs $100k plus... Thats what it is folks. But who needs a car that nice? Not everyone, I can do creative lesser restos too. You could just do mechanical and drive it as an o.g. patina ride. That was my plan. Or do the interior and vinyl top at least. My shop website CLICK HERE Windows are sticky to roll down, needs greased up. On the gauge cluster back is a small voltage reducer to 5 volts. It is bad and disconnected. I hope that is all that is needed to get the gauges going. I havent purchased a replacement, and was looking into upgrading it with a modern component as those were sketchy parts. It is now your decision what you do with it, but for now only speedo (with bouncing needle!) and alt. gauge work. Headlights and tailights work. Not sure if bout brakelights now that I think about it. I am sure a lot of little things wont work or need cleaning up contacts, etc. Oh wiper motor doesnt work, missing driver side wiper arm too. Post is fine, just arm is missing. Carpet is out, and I took pics with seats out too. I bolted seats back in, did not put seat belts back in in front, but they come with car as well as a couple ducting pieces for under dash. See pics. One small rust pinhole near accelerator pedal. Very solid floors. All underneath is solid too. All framerails, etc. Mileage shows 12,403, it has turned over once for sure. Who knows, maybe twice. There was no dipstick for some reason when I got it, I put one on, though its not bolted to motor mount at this time. You can also thank me for getting rid of all the rat feces and acorns in motor compartment as well! Headlight grills do not operate on there own to rise or close. Don't get excited about the one cool vintage drag slick, there is no cool racing history, just on there to be a roller. Comes with a flat spare, and jack, etc, see pics. Will need tires all around. One set of keys. Works glove box lock too. Side mirror housing is broken, see pics Steering wheel had NO cracks at all. Horn center is wrong I think. Looks like a 67 dodge center? I like that better than the padded center these had though. Missing trunk and door weather stripping. Roof has rust from vinyl top being wasted and car cover being sun roasted and leaky. No holes through roof though. Couple deep pits but overall solid. Can be cleaned up and pits filled. See pics. All glass is very presentable. Some scratches here and there, one rock bubble/chip as seen in pics on windshield. Original owner had two chargers at one time, they swapped seats because this one had ones in better condition. I had to go through other charger to find broadcast sheet for this car. So these seats did not come off the lot in this car. Just an fyi. Not a big deal of course.
